Firestone Building Products constructs Heinsberg facility

Firestone Building Products Co. LLC, Indianapolis, has unveiled plans to expand its global manufacturing capabilities by constructing a manufacturing facility in Heinsberg, Germany.

The Heinsberg facility will expand Firestone Building Products' production and distribution of polyisocyanurate foam insulation to better serve Europe's construction market and will be the company's second European manufacturing facility. The Heinsberg facility is expected to be fully operational in 2018.

ATAS International employee receives award

ATAS International Inc., Allentown, Pa., has announced Mark Bus, national sales manager for ATAS International, received a Metal Construction Association (MCA) Triumph Award Oct. 26 during METAL-CON 2016 in Baltimore.

Bus was recognized with an Industry Young Movers and Shakers Award for standing out as an emerging leader who demonstrates excellence, creativity and initiative in his profession. MCA's annual Triumph Awards are presented to individuals and companies that champion the growth and development of the metal construction industry.

Duro-Last® facility granted Star Site status

Duro-Last Inc., Saginaw, Mich., has announced its Grants Pass, Ore., location received Star Site status from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA's) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). The VPP Star Site award was presented to the Grants Pass facility Nov. 17 by OSHA Oregon Director Michael Wood.

Star Site status is the highest of three programs offered by OSHA's VPP and recognizes exemplary work sites that have comprehensive, successful safety and health management systems in place. The Grants Pass facility, which also participated in OSHA's Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program in 2006, was granted Star Site status in recognition of its ongoing commitment to worker safety and health.

TAMKO® Building Products employee receives award

TAMKO Building Products Inc., Joplin, Mo., announced Scott Morgan, TAMKO Building Products' Phoenix residential and commercial territory manager, was awarded a Lifetime Member award by the Arizona Roofing Contractors Association (ARCA). Morgan received the award during ARCA's annual convention at the Casino del Sol in Tucson, Ariz., in October.

ARCA has awarded fewer than a dozen Lifetime Member awards during its chapter's 49 years, reserving the honor for members who actively serve ARCA in extraordinary ways, participate in ARCA events and committees, and exhibit a high level of respect for the association and its members. An ARCA member since 1981, Morgan was recognized for his service on ARCA's board of directors for more than 10 years; on ARCA's charity committee, New Pathways for Youth, for 19 years; and acting as ARCA's meeting and seminar committee chairman for 11 years.

Wolfe Roofing and Sheet Metal president retires

Tecta America, Rosemont, Ill., has announced the retirement of Gary Wolfe, president of Wolfe Roofing and Sheet Metal, a Tecta America Company, Reading, Pa. After graduating from Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J., in 1971, Wolfe launched Wolfe Roofing and Sheet Metal in 1973 to serve roofing professionals in the Pennsylvania market. He led the company for several decades before selling the company to Tecta America in 2015.

Wolfe has dedicated years of service to the roofing industry. He served as president of the Roofers Mart of Central Pennsylvania from 1986-87; president of the Building Industries Exchange of Reading and Berks County from 1988-91; and president of The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress from 2006-07. Wolfe also has been a member of the Firestone National Contractor Advisory Committee, and he has served on Seton Hall University's Stillman School of Business' Advisory Board since 2009. On Nov. 10, Wolfe was inducted into Seton Hall University's Entrepreneur Hall of Fame during the 11th annual Entrepreneur Hall of Fame induction dinner at the Maplewood Country Club in Maplewood, N.J.

Jeffrey Koller, former senior project manager and estimator for Wolfe Roofing and Sheet Metal, a Tecta America Company, assumed the company's presidency this month.

Burns & Scalo Roofing employee named CFO of the Year

Burns & Scalo Roofing Co. Inc., Pittsburgh, has announced Michael Andreolli, executive vice president of administration and chief financial officer for the Scalo Companies, was named CFO of the Year by the Pittsburgh Business Times during a ceremony at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh.

The CFO of the Year Awards honor corporate financial professionals in western Pennsylvania for outstanding performance. Andreolli has worked for the Scalo Companies for 21 years. In addition to fulfilling his financial responsibilities, Andreolli helps develop the company's training and promotion opportunities; oversees the human resources and information technology departments; and plays an integral role as a member of the executive management team that strategizes the company's future growth.

ABC Supply acquires Ohio distributor

ABC Supply Co. Inc., Beloit, Wis., has acquired the assets of Trumbull Vinyl Products Inc., a Cortland, Ohio-based distributor of roofing, siding and other building products.

The acquisition provides ABC Supply with its first location in the Cortland and Warren, Ohio, area. The Cortland location and ABC Supply's two stores in nearby Youngstown, Ohio, will offer greater access to a variety of exterior building products to contractors operating in northeastern Ohio.

Triangle Fastener names contest winners

Triangle Fastener Corp., Pittsburgh, has named the seven winners of its contest held during METALCON 2016 in Baltimore.

The six winners who will receive new DEWALT® 20V VersaClutch™ Screwguns featuring FLEXVOLT™ technology are Linda McAllister, office manager for Modern Metals Inc., St. Louis; Brian Perry, president of A & H Metals, Newark, Del.; Leigh Press, president of PCC Construction Components Inc., Gaithersburg, Md.; Albert Rush, president of NRCA member Rush Architectural Metal Erectors Inc., Washington, Pa.; Breck Simonsson, superintendent for McCownGordon Construction, Kansas City, Mo.; and Jim Szabo, president and CEO of Hi Tech - Hi Art Metal Roofing LLC, Lower Paxton Township, Pa.

The grand prize winner of a 50-inch smart HDTV is Yeonhwa Lee, project engineer for NRCA member Autumn Contracting Inc., Springfield, Va.

MCA announces METALCON competition winners

The Metal Construction Association (MCA) has announced the winners of its third annual Metal Roofing Championship Games held Oct. 26-27 during METALCON 2016 in Baltimore.

This year's competition theme was "Battle Stars Over Baltimore," and the team challenges were NRCA member Triangle Fastener Corp.'s screwgun challenge; Roof Hugger Inc.'s hug-a-roof challenge; NRCA members New Tech Machinery Corp. and Drexel Metals' standing-seam challenge; NRCA member D.I. Roof Seamers' seam it up challenge; and S-5!'s let it snow challenge.

Each day, five teams with two contestants each competed in the five challenges to win cash awards. A grand prize was awarded each day to the team that accumulated the most points. The following construction companies were represented during the competition: ARCON, Vanceboro, N.C.; DYMI Construction Inc., Morrisville, Pa.; Hardin Construction LLC, Union Bridge, Md.; Intermountain Roof Advisors, Salt Lake City; Mad Metal LLC, Arden, N.C.; Rosselli Roofing and Siding, Wantage, N.J.; Thomas Phoenix International, Easthampton, N.J.; and NRCA member Wm. Molnar Roofing Co. Inc., Riverview, Mich.

On Oct. 26, Joe Allen and Paul Kulb of Thomas Phoenix International received the top award of the day—the Best Quality Award—and the grand prize. On Oct. 27, Dennis Duce and Gonzolo Tellez of Intermountain Roof Advisors also received the Best Quality Award and the grand prize.

The fourth annual Metal Roofing Championship Games will be held Oct. 18-20, 2017, in Las Vegas. Team pre-registration for the event will begin in February.

Alliance welcomes new members

The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress welcomes two new members: Mark Paine, president of Hy-Tech Products Inc., Broadview Heights, Ohio, has joined as a Local Distributor, and Rudy Gutierrez, president of Shell Roofing Solutions, Chino, Calif., has joined at the Governor Level.

Hy-Tech Products joins 35 distributors, suppliers and manufacturers who support the Alliance. Hy-Tech Products and Shell Roofing Solutions' membership commitments entitle them to participate in project task forces established to guide the Alliance's agenda and attend the Alliance's semiannual meetings.

CDA accepting awards submissions

The Copper Development Association (CDA) is accepting submissions for its 10th annual North American Copper in Architecture awards program.

CDA and the Canadian Copper & Brass Development Association are seeking submissions from companies in the U.S. and Canada that have completed unique and innovative projects using copper or copper alloys. The project categories are Restoration/Renovation, New Construction and Ornamental Applications. Previous award-winning copper projects have included government buildings, libraries, single-family homes and places of worship. Project submission forms are available at www.copper.org/applications/architecture/awards/form. The submission deadline is Jan. 31.

In recognition of the program's 10th anniversary, CDA also has invited the public to help select the top 10 projects from the previous decade. Vote for your favorite copper projects online at www.copper.org/applications/architecture/awards/ten-year-nacia.php. The top 10 copper projects and the 2017 award winners will be announced in April during the North American Copper in Architecture awards ceremony in Orlando.

The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) has produced Your Guide to Algae Discoloration, an educational video for homeowners explaining how to identify algae on roofs, why algae grows on roofs and how to properly remove algae from roofs.
