ASTM International adds certification abilities

ASTM International now will develop and offer certification services. The initiative—called the ASTM International Certification Program—is sponsored by ASTM International and offers the opportunity to certify materials, products, services, systems and personnel.

The ASTM International Certification Program was created in response to requests that ASTM International provide certification to meet expressed needs for independent, third-party demonstrations of standards compliance.

A product certified through ASTM's Product Certification Program will be tested by a third-party laboratory to determine the product's ability to conform to one or more ASTM International standards. All program initiatives will be based on the level of interest of the relevant ASTM International technical committee, as well as the industry's support.

More information about the ASTM International Certification Program is available on the certification page of ASTM International's Web site, www.astm.org/cert.

In addition, ASTM International is accepting abstracts for papers to be presented during its Seventh Symposium on Roofing Research and Standards Development, which will be held Dec. 4-5, 2011. The symposium will focus on the influence of laboratory and field investigations in developing standards for roofing and waterproofing materials and systems.

To participate in the symposium, presenters and authors must submit an Abstract Submittal Form and attach a 250- to 300-word preliminary abstract no later than May 4.
