CertainTeed receives award

The Building Solutions Division of CertainTeed Corp., Valley Forge, Pa., received an Award for Excellence in Education from The American Institute of Architects.

Winning in the commercial stakeholder continuing-education provider category, CertainTeed was recognized for its commitment to the development of high-quality continuing-education programs. The criteria for the award included design and implementation, planning and analysis of educational needs, evaluation and improvement of activities, and community outreach.

GAF releases safety DVD

Wayne, N.J.-based GAF Materials Corp., with the help of NRCA and the Indy Racing League, has released the DVD “Race to Be Safe,” which promotes the importance of safety training.

The DVD combines the excitement of Indy car racing with the serious aspects of safety. “Race to Be Safe” compares car racing with roofing and shows the seriousness with which racing professionals regard safety. The DVD is available in English and Spanish.

Stevens Roofing Systems honored

Buildings magazine has chosen Holyoke, Mass.-based Stevens Roofing Systems’ EP-XL TPO membrane as one of the 2003 Editors’ Choice 100 Top Product Picks. Applicability, reader interest, uniqueness and performance characteristics were some factors on which the honor was based. Winners were featured in the magazine’s December 2003 issue.

CSI completes manual content

The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) has completed the major content and structure development of its 2004 edition of MasterFormat,™ a specifications-writing standard for nonresidential building design and construction. The manual lists titles and section numbers to organize data regarding construction activities, products and requirements.

Some new features include new divisions for rapidly advancing technology; more space within each division; reserved space for future updates; separate divisions for the plumbing section and heating, ventilating and air-conditioning section; and coverage of engineering-related construction. MasterFormat 04 will be available this fall.

Green roof conference planned

Green Roofs for Healthy Cities and Portland, Ore., will hold Greening Rooftops for Sustainable Communities: The Second Annual International Green Roof Infrastructure Conference, Awards and Trade Show June 2-4 in Portland.

Featuring developments in the green roofing industry, the conference will focus on topics such as green roof system design, research and technical papers about green roof system performance, as well as policies beneficial for green roof systems. Other aspects of the event include green roof products and services featured in the trade show, green roof tours, and a green roof training and certification course.

The Associated Roofing Contractors of Maryland has elected the following officers for the 2004 term: president—Dave Ickrath, president of Roofers Inc., Baltimore; vice president—Dave Taylor, president of F.A. The site features discussion of sustainability and energy efficiency, product details that can be downloaded into design programs and contact information for Sarnafil-approved applicators.

  • MetalWorks offers contractors and distributors QuantumMail, an online direct-mail service, at www.metalworksroof.com. With most orders mailed the next business day, QuantumMail features several designs, mailing lists and help from a design department. The 8 1/2- by 5 1/2-inch cards display a name, contact information and message.

  • Falcon Foam® now has a Web site at www.falconfoam.com. The site features a media gallery, technical information, case studies, and viewable and downloadable literature.
