Duro-Last® facility's Star Site status renewed

Duro-Last Inc., Saginaw, Mich., has announced its Grants Pass, Ore., manufacturing facility earned a renewal of its Star Site status from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Voluntary Protection Program. The facility originally was awarded Star Site status in 2016.

OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program recognizes employers and employees who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintain injury and illness rates below industry averages as determined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Star Site status, the top recognition offered by OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program, recognizes exemplary work sites that have comprehensive, successful safety and health management systems in place. A Star Site work site is self-sufficient in its ability to control workplace hazards; each Star Site work site is reevaluated every three to five years.

The application and renewal process requires an extensive evaluation of the work site, operations, and health and safety programs. An on-site assessment requires a review of records, logs and inspection history, as well as meetings with management staff and employees, a walk-through of the facility to determine hazards and precautions, formal and informal interviews, and a closing meeting to discuss findings and recommendations.

"We are proud of the work put into the successful renewal of our Voluntary Protection Program Star Site status in Grants Pass," says Michael Matthews, Duro-Last's corporate safety director. "We are currently leveraging what we learned from this process and from the dedicated Oregon OSHA team to implement Voluntary Protection Program status at each of our manufacturing facilities across the country."
