Sika Sarnafil presents awards

Canton, Mass.-based Sika Sarnafil Inc. has announced the winners of its 2006 Project of the Year challenge. Winners are selected annually in roofing and waterproofing categories.

First place for roofing was awarded to Meade Construction Inc., Fredericktown, Ohio; second place was awarded to Titan Roofing Inc., Chicopee, Mass.; and third place was awarded to NRCA member CEI Roofing—Texas, Dallas, a Tecta America company.

First place for waterproofing was awarded to NRCA member Anderson & Shah Roofing Inc., Joliet, Ill.; second place was awarded to NRCA member D.C. Taylor Co., Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and third place was awarded to NRCA member Greylock Roofing Co., Woburn, Mass.

Projects are judged on quality of workmanship, degree of difficulty, unusual challenges met, design uniqueness or importance, and quality of submission.

Soprema partners with Pfister Energy

Soprema Inc., Wadsworth, Ohio, has partnered with Paterson, N.J.-based Pfister Energy to jointly develop integrated solar roof systems.

"For the first time, building owners can consider a roof system that not only will protect their buildings from the elements but will generate power for up to 30 years with a single-source warranty," says Wayne Pfisterer, president of Pfister Energy.



Up the ladder

Carlisle SynTec Inc. has named Matt O'Hanlon north central regional manager.

The Midwest Roofing Contractors Association has appointed Kim Swartzendruber executive director.

OMG Inc. has named Mike Binsfeld and Dan Schmidt national account managers.

NRCA vice president receives award

The North/East Roofing Contractors Association (NERCA) presented Robert W. Therrien Jr., president of The Melanson Co. Inc., Keene, N.H., with the annual Clarence J. Carr Award during NERCA's 81st Convention and Trade Show.

Therrien, currently an NRCA vice president, received the award for his service, contribution and dedication to the roofing industry. The Clarence J. Carr Award is NERCA's highest honor.

Beldon Roofing is honored

San Antonio-based Beldon Roofing Co. has received the prestigious Subcontractor of the Year award from The Beck Group, Dallas, for its work on the 2006 AT&T roofing program.

From March 2006 to November 2006, Beldon Roofing installed more than 50 roof systems on AT&T switching centers and offices.

Roofing group begins commercial service

National Roofing Partners (NRP), a nonprofit association of 58 roofing contracting companies, has announced it will provide single-source commercial roofing services to multifacility customers across the U.S.

"Multifacility managers now have a better choice of roofing services," says Angie Basyouni, executive director of NRP. "With NRP, they have a single point of contact for service on any building nationwide."

Advanced Architectural Sheet Metal Inc. has updated its Web site, www.advarchsm.com. The retooled site now includes color charts, additional technical information about sheet-metal products and contact information. In addition, the site features a photo gallery.

FM Approvals provides free RoofNav® access

FM Approvals now offers free, unrestricted access to RoofNav, its former subscription-only Web-based roofing tool. RoofNav offers a means of determining roofing product and roof system compliance with FM Approvals' guidelines and standards. RoofNav can be accessed at www.roofnav.com.

The decision to offer RoofNav free of charge reportedly was made to better support the needs of the roofing industry and help prevent roofing-related property losses caused by human error.

ICC issues green building policy

The International Code Council (ICC) has issued a policy position on green building and sustainable communities.

The policy outlines several initiatives to support green building, including educating ICC members about programs available for achieving environmentally responsible buildings; advocating for green building in the legislative, regulatory and codes arenas; and promoting environmental features of ICC's I-Codes.

"This policy reinforces our commitment to the environment and ensures our members play an important role in matters related to green building," says ICC Chief Executive Officer Rick Weiland.
