Johns Manville names Pinnacle Council® members

Johns Manville, Denver, has announced 90 roofing contractors met their performance standards and qualified for membership in Johns Manville's distinguished Pinnacle Council.

The Pinnacle Council is part of the Johns Manville Peak Advantage® program designed to help commercial roofing contractors maintain a competitive advantage by providing access to new technologies and training.

In addition, 15 of the contractors were named to the exclusive 5280 Council, the Peak Advantage program's top level, for completing quality work during numerous installations. The following contractors were named to the 5280 Council:

TAMKO® Building Products receives safety award

TAMKO Building Products Inc., Joplin, Mo., was awarded a 50 Years Dedication to Safety award by UL during the 2019 International Roofing Expo® in Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 11. The award was presented to TAMKO Building Products for the company's dedication to product safety and compliance during its decades-long relationship with UL. UL conducts product testing for manufacturers that want to obtain third-party compliance certifications, and the company has evaluated the fire and wind resistance and impact performance of TAMKO Building Products' products for 57 years. Currently celebrating its 75th anniversary in business, TAMKO Building Products was the first roofing product manufacturer to receive a supplementary UL Evaluation Report, which demonstrates product compliance with building code requirements through technical evidence.

"We are committed to safety at TAMKO Building Products for our employees and customers, which is why we seek to provide safe, high-quality products," says Stephen McNally, vice president of sales and marketing for TAMKO Building Products. "TAMKO Building Products is honored to have earned this significant achievement in product safety and compliance."

In addition, TAMKO Building Products has announced TAMKO Pro Certified Contractors now can earn cash back on eligible roofing product purchases during 2019. Cash-back earning begins when a TAMKO Pro Certified Contractor purchases a minimum 1,000 squares; contractors can earn back as much as $4 per square depending on the product purchased. Qualifying products include TAMKO Building Products' Elite Glass-Seal® three-tab shingles, Heritage® shingles, MetalWorks® steel shingles, and accessory products such as TAMKO Hip & Ridge and ventilation products.

Atlas® Roofing shingles featured in web series

Atlas Roofing Corp., Atlanta, has announced Atlas Pro™ roofing contractors partnered with Mike Holmes Jr. and Sherry Holmes to install Atlas Pinnacle® Pristine shingles with Scotchgard™ Protector by 3M™ on two homes during a five-part web series, Roof It Right. Asphalt shingles with Scotchgard Protector are designed to prevent roof streaks caused by blue-green algae.

Mike Holmes Jr. worked with George Boudreaux, owner of Pelican Roofing, Lafayette, La., to install a new roof system on the home of Carl and Ann Leblanc, who began noticing black streaks on their roof four years ago. And Sherry Holmes teamed up with Kyle Grasso, president of A-Team Roofing, Collierville, Tenn., to install a new roof system on the home of Mark and Donna Collinsworth, who have been living with algae stains on their roof for more than five years.

"We had a lot of fun making this web series," Sherry Holmes says. "Getting to show the homeowners their finished roofs and seeing the smiles on their faces was priceless."

ATAS International honors top sales team

ATAS International Inc., Allentown, Pa., has announced Marc Fisher, inside technical sales representative for southern California, and Frank Saldana, product representative for southern California, received ATAS International's Malan S. Parker Award. The award annually recognizes the company's top sales team.

Fisher and Saldana were recognized for their overall sales growth within southern California, observance of corporate goals and objectives, and product diversification. Saldana previously won the award in 2014.

National Roofing donates children's roofing books

National Roofing Co., Albuquerque, N.M., donated children's roofing books to Busy Bees Child Care Center in Albuquerque after completing a reroofing project at the center.

After observing the children's excitement about the roofing professionals working on top of the building, National Roofing's employees decided to throw a party for their young admirers. The National Roofing team brought hard hats, vests and cookies for the children and distributed copies of NRCA's book, "Is This a Roof?" to show them roofing can be a pathway to success. The crew also answered the children's questions about roofing. The party was a great success with smiles and gratitude from the Busy Bees children.

"National Roofing's teams went above and beyond for every issue and were a great support system throughout this job," said Cait Eisenhauer, facilities manager for Busy Bees Child Care Center. "I appreciate everything National Roofing's crew did."

ARMA elects new president

The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association has elected Tim Kersey, vice president and general manager for NRCA member SOPREMA® Inc., Wadsworth, Ohio, president for the 2019 term.

An active association member since the late 1980s, Kersey has proven leadership capabilities and a passion for communicating the benefit of asphalt roofing products to the building industry and the public. He has served multiple terms as chairman of ARMA's Low-Slope Roofing Committee and helped develop technical publications and codes standards for low-slope asphalt roofing applications. He has served on ARMA's board of directors since 2012.

"I have had the pleasure of working with Tim since 2003 when I started with ARMA," says Reed Hitchcock, executive vice president of ARMA. "He has a breadth of technical knowledge and executive experience, and he also brings a great combination of fresh perspective and insight into the association's history that we look forward to engaging further as he takes the reins as president."

During 2019, Kersey will continue ARMA's efforts to raise awareness of the benefits of asphalt roofing in the residential sector and bolster communications regarding the advantages of asphalt roofing in the commercial market. Industry members can expect to see expanding interactions between asphalt shingle and low-slope roofing manufacturers, broadening public dissemination of ARMA's statistical industry reports, and an emphasis on increasing asphalt roofing representation in industry conversations.

ERA elects new chairman

The EPDM Roofing Association has elected David Martiny, director of product management for NRCA member Firestone Building Products Co. LLC, Nashville, Tenn., chairman. He replaces Mike DuCharme, vice president of marketing for Carlisle Construction Materials, Carlisle, Pa., who will remain on ERA's board of directors.

Martiny has worked at Firestone Building Products since 2006 and served as a regional business manager in Shanghai, China, for seven years. He returned to the U.S. in 2014 to serve as an international business manager for Firestone Building Products and has held his current position for two years.

"We are fortunate to have David leading our efforts," says Ellen Thorp, ERA's associate executive director. "This is an exciting time for the manufacturers of EPDM, and David's in-depth experience in the building materials industry will help all of our members capitalize on the opportunities at hand."

SPFA makes certification program available

The Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance has made available its Professional Certification Program designed to enhance the performance of spray polyurethane foam roofing and insulation and job-site safety during installations.

SPFA's Professional Certification Program is the first SPF certification program in the U.S. to be ISO 17024-compliant, standards-driven and internationally recognized. The Professional Certification Program establishes a set of criteria through which industry professionals can demonstrate their knowledge, skills and abilities in working safely and efficiently.

ATAS International has added building information modeling objects for its products to its website, www.atas.com. Building information modeling is used to streamline collaboration during building construction and design. A user now can download the necessary files for ATAS International products and incorporate them into a building information model.

EXCEPTIONAL® Metals has updated its website, www.exceptionalmetals.com. The home-page now features links to product pages, featured contractors and award winners, and company announcements. Users also can access product descriptions, a downloadable library of technical documents and specifications, interactive color visualizer, marketing literature, ordering forms and media gallery.

Georgia-Pacific Gypsum has updated its roofing product website, www.densdeck.com. The website features information about DensDeck® Prime Roof Boards, including product specs, a technical guide and customer testimonials.

IKO has launched its North American website for residential roofing, www.iko.com/na. Designed to benefit homeowners and contractors, the website enables homeowners to "Find a Contractor," review product and accessory overviews, visit the design center and access a roof inspection checklist. Contractors can find a distributor, learn about IKO's new ROOFPRO loyalty program and take advantage of professional tools provided to help support contractors' businesses.

ABC Supply opens Kansas branch

ABC Supply Co. Inc., Beloit, Wis., has opened a new branch in Junction City, Kan.

The branch will offer low- and steep-slope roofing products, siding, windows and gutter-building materials to local contractors. ABC Supply now has six locations in Kansas.

Triangle Fastener acquired by SFS Group

Triangle Fastener Corp., Pittsburgh, has been acquired by SFS Group, Heerbrugg, Switzerland, a global supplier of mechanical fastening systems.

The acquisition enables SFS Group to expand access to the U.S. building supply market through Triangle Fastener's 23 branch locations in 15 states. Triangle Fastener will operate as part of the construction division within SFS Group's fastening systems segment.

Up the ladder

Kemper System America Inc. has named Joseph Hoekzema and Brian McGuire directors of sales for liquid-applied roofing and waterproofing products.
