Bradco Supply acquires company

Avenel, N.J.-based Bradco Supply Corp. has acquired Quality Roofing Supplies Inc., Schenectady, N.Y.

Founded in 1974, Quality Roofing Supplies distributed commercial and residential roofing, siding and window products to the Albany, N.Y., region and operated a metal fabricating facility and a door and window facility.

"We believe that this is an excellent opportunity for both Bradco Supply and Quality Roofing Supplies, one that brings together two trusted names with a similar history, philosophy and dedication to bringing their customers quality building materials and customer service that is second to none," says Martin Segal, Bradco Supply's vice president of acquisitions.

CertainTeed updates manual

CertainTeed Corp., Valley Forge, Pa., has updated its Shingle Applicator's Manual.

The updated manual contains new information about ventilation and Flintlastic® SA roof systems and tips for installing WinterGuard™ over existing waterproofing shingle underlayments. It also contains new and updated flashing diagrams, an alternative method for installing open metal valleys with laminate shingles and a newly approved method for installing Landmark™ Series shingles. The updated manual also reflects product line revisions, including the addition of Swiftstart™ starter shingles.

The manual is published in English and Spanish, and a companion DVD is available in both languages.

Tremco acquires company

Tremco Inc., Beachwood, Ohio, has acquired Canam Building Envelope Specialists, a Mississauga, Ontario-based building envelope contracting firm. Zerodraft, a related company that provides specialized retrofit weatherstripping and distributes related insulation and sealant products, also is part of the acquisition. The acquisition's terms have not been disclosed.

Canam Building Envelope Specialists and its facility specialists now are part of Tremco's Roofing and Building Maintenance Division's subsidiary, Weatherproofing Technologies Inc., and Zerodraft is part of Tremco Commercial Sealants & Waterproofing.

"This acquisition makes excellent strategic sense for Tremco and Canam Building Envelope Specialists," says Deryl Kratzer, Tremco's Roofing and Building Maintenance Division's president. "Combining our companies enhances our building envelope and energy management expertise, enabling us to pursue growth opportunities that otherwise would be unavailable."

Follansbee® Steel appears on television

Follansbee KlassicKolors,® produced by Follansbee Steel, Follansbee, W.Va., was featured in an episode of HGTV's Curb Appeal that aired April 18 and May 17.

The episode, "A New Porch and New Colors Bring Zing to a Home's Exterior," focuses on the transformation of a Bethesda, Md., residence and includes the addition of about 250 square feet of Follansbee KlassicKolors in red to the existing patio's roof.

"The homeowners will benefit from KlassicKolors' solar reflective coatings, which will help keep their patio area cool during the summer months," says Edward Thomas, Follansbee Steel's vice president and general manager. "Follansbee was happy to provide our product to such a unique renovation project."

Carlisle SynTec plans PV installation

Carlisle SynTec Inc., Carlisle, Pa., has received a $650,000 grant to assist with installing a 200-kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) system on one of the roofs at its Carlisle location. The funds were made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and were distributed through the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority, a grant program within the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

Carlisle SynTec will invest $650,000 in matching funds to cover additional costs associated with the PV system installation. Energy created by the PV roof will be returned to the local power grid.

The project will include the installation and monitoring of three separate PV systems, which will be supplied by Carlisle Energy Services, a division of Carlisle SynTec that provides integrated solar roof systems.

OMG Roofing Products revises logos

OMG Roofing Products, Agawam, Mass., has revised its product logos. According to the company, the revised product logos more clearly position the company's product lines under OMG Roofing Products' "master brand."

OMG Roofing Products has begun phasing in its new product logos and expects to complete the conversion within six to nine months. OMG Roofing Products' product names and packaging will include the circular red and white OMG mark, as well as the product name and a brief product description. The company will maintain its established product names; logo typeface; and red, black and gray color scheme, as well as the existing OMG Roofing Products logo.

Up the ladder

Tarco has named Gus Freshwater vice president of manufacturing. Elizabeth Hedges has been named Tarco's Northeast regional sales manager.

Tremco Inc.'s Roofing and Building Maintenance Division has named Kurt Sosinski, RRC, CDT, director of product management.

The Garland Co. Inc. has redesigned www.garlandco.com to give users faster access to information about the company's products and technologies.

Triangle Fastener Corp. has redesigned www.trianglefastener.com to include numerous metal, wood, drywall, plastic and concrete fasteners; updated navigation; a list of contacts and branch locations; and information about technical material, installation, new products, programs and trade show schedules.

Roofing professional passes away

Mike Barton, vice president of ARMKO Industries Inc., Flower Mound, Texas, passed away at age 54, the victim of a sailboat accident.

Barton's company has been an affiliate member of the Roofing Industry Committee on Weather Issues (RICOWI) Inc. since 2000. He was a trained member of RICOWI's Oklahoma City hailstorm investigation. He also served as captain of a RICOWI low-slope investigation team following Hurricane Ike.

Barton is survived by his wife, Diane, and two sons, Shane and Chris.

ERA creates affiliate category

The EPDM Roofing Association (ERA) has created an affiliate member category whose members will form the ERA Recycling Council. Nationwide Foam Inc., Framingham, Mass., is the council's first member.

The ERA Recycling Council is open to any company, corporation or other enterprise that is not eligible for ERA's regular or associate membership but is engaged in any aspect of recycling EPDM or other single-ply roof membranes. Member companies will work with ERA to continue its efforts to reuse and recycle EPDM. Membership requires approval by ERA's board of directors.

"The Recycling Council reconfirms the commitment of ERA to developing a system by which EPDM can be recycled and reused," says John Geary, ERA's chairman of the board. "By working with our members and the new affiliate members, we will be able to take the next steps toward reaching that goal."
