Chem Link unveils new logo

Chem Link, Schoolcraft, Mich., has unveiled a redesigned logo meant to convey the company's commitment to innovation while meeting the challenging demands of the 21st century.

The new logo features an atom-like particle that arcs across the typography and includes the phrase "Polymer Innovation" in blue, emphasizing Chem Link's core capabilities in polymer chemistry. The logo's left-to-right motion is meant to convey action, movement into the future and energy; the blue and green colors emphasize the company's commitment to maintaining a healthy environment by developing solvent-free, nontoxic products.

TAMKO® Building Products offers measurement tool

TAMKO Building Products, Joplin, Mo., has partnered with EagleView Technologies, Bothell, Wash., to offer a new aerial measurement tool to contractors enrolled in TAMKO's Pro Certified Contractor Program. The customized roof measurement reports use 3D modeling to create measurements, diagrams and summary tables.

Carlisle Construction Materials adds TPO line

Carlisle Construction Materials, Carlisle, Pa., has announced plans to establish a TPO membrane manufacturing operation at its Carlisle campus. The new line will manufacture Carlisle Construction Materials' TPO roof membranes in various sizes and thicknesses.

Scheduled to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2014, the new operation will be the company's fifth TPO manufacturing line and is expected to increase its TPO manufacturing capacity by about 25 percent per year. The operation will create about 30 new jobs in 2014.

GAF commercial wins awards

Wayne, N.J.-based GAF was a Silver and triple Bronze winner in the 34th Annual Telly Awards for its "Scary Experience" trilogy branding campaign and its TV commercials "Scary Experience II" and "Everyone Wants a Timberline Roof!" The Telly Awards honor outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs; video and film productions; and online commercials, video and films.

Sika Sarnafil achieves platinum certification

Sika Sarnafil, Canton, Mass., is the first manufacturer to attain platinum certification to the NSF/ANSI 347 Sustainability Assessment for Single Ply Roofing Membranes for its S327 and G410 roof membranes. NSF/ANSI 347 is the leading consensus standard for evaluating and certifying sustainable attributes of single-ply roof membranes during products' life cycles.

NSF/ANSI 347 evaluates roof membrane products by considering prerequisite requirements, performance criteria and quantifiable metrics in five key areas: product design, product manufacturing, membrane durability, corporate governance and innovation. There are various certification levels, including conformant, silver, gold and platinum; platinum indicates the highest score and highest certification earned.

Owens Corning™ marks program anniversary

Toledo, Ohio-based Owens Corning is celebrating the first anniversary of its Owens Corning Certified Energy Expert® program, which was created to assemble the industry's most elite insulation professionals to help ensure proper installation and provide expert guidance.

To achieve certification, insulation contractors and their employees must undergo rigorous training in various areas; maintain a clean Better Business Bureau record; be insured; and provide professional and customer references, among other things. Since the program launched in 2012, 60 contractors have attained certification.

GenFlex Roofing Systems unveils new look

Genflex Roofing Systems, Indianapolis, unveiled new branding at the Western Roofing Expo in Reno, Nev., with an updated logo, revised color scheme and redesigned trade show booth. The new branding also includes the tagline, "Above all."

ROXUL Inc. partners with manufacturers

ROXUL Inc., Milton, Ontario, the largest manufacturer of stone wool insulation products in North America, has announced strategic partnerships with Sika Sarnafil, Canton, Mass., a manufacturer of thermoplastic (PVC) roof membranes, and Carlisle Construction Materials, Carlisle, Pa., a manufacturer of commercial roofing materials.

Sika Sarnafil roof systems incorporate ROXUL® stone wool insulation; as a component of a Sika Sarnafil-approved roof system, ROXUL insulation is included in Sika Sarnafil warranty programs. In addition, ROXUL will offer a limited guarantee of 100 percent of the insulation's published R-value(s) to match the waterproofing warranty up to 30 years.

Carlisle Construction Materials roofing warranty programs featuring EPDM and TPO membranes now will include ROXUL stone wool roof insulation. Products included in the warranty program will be TOPROCK® DD roof insulation with integrated insulating cover board and MONOBOARD® insulating cover board, as well as bitumen-coated variations of these board products for Carlisle's Hot-Mopped systems with FleeceBACK AFX membranes.

Commercial Roofers awards scholarship

Commercial Roofers Inc., Las Vegas, recently awarded its annual $1,500 scholarship to Alex Klenk, a fourth-year student at University of Nevada, Las Vegas' (UNLV's) School of Architecture. Commercial Roofers established the scholarship in 1997 to raise awareness of the importance of roof systems in architecture and teach the importance of proper and workable roof system designs to students who aspire to be future architects.

ABC Supply acquires distribution assets

ABC Supply Co. Inc., Beloit, Wis., has acquired the distribution assets of Sellmore Industries, a distributor of steep-slope roof systems, siding and windows. ABC Supply acquired Sellmore Industries' four locations in Baltimore; Buffalo, N.Y.; Hagerstown, Md.; and Philadelphia. The new ABC Supply branches will continue to offer Sellmore Industries products, brands and services.

ABC Supply also has acquired the inventory and select equipment previously owned by JB Supply Co., Flint, Mich., a distributor of roofing, siding and other exterior building products.

The former JB Supply facility will operate as an ABC Supply branch; it will be ABC Supply's first facility in Flint. The Flint branch will continue to offer various steep-slope roofing products, as well as siding, low-slope roof systems and other products.

In addition, ABC Supply honored Tom Becerra, Curtis Neal and Jeff Smith with 2012 Ken Hendricks Awards. The Ken Hendricks Award was created to honor the memory of ABC Supply's co-founder, Ken Hendricks, and to highlight the values he and co-founder Diane Hendricks championed that have driven ABC Supply since its establishment in 1982.





SRS Distribution acquires distributor

SRS Distribution, McKinney, Texas, has acquired Moerman-Clark Inc., a one-branch independent distributor of residential and commercial roofing materials in San Francisco. The transaction was structured as an asset purchase of the company, which previously had been employee-owned.

Moerman-Clark's branch manager and sales and operations team will continue to run the branch; the company will transition its operating name to Roofline Supply.

IKO Industries has launched a new version of its website, www.iko.com, which offers a clean, intuitive design; instructional videos; product information; a glossary of roofing terms; technical specs; material safety data sheets; iPad apps and more. The website focuses on meeting the needs of homeowners, contractors and distributors.

CertainTeed Corp. now offers a Curb-Appeal™ app for the iPad® that helps homeowners review and select siding, roofing, decking, railing and fence products for a personalized look. The app, which can be found at www.certainteed.com/colortools, allows homeowners to experiment with color and style and offers outdoor living space examples.

The Colorado Roofing Association has announced its "new and improved" Code Guidelines section of its website is available at www.coloradoroofing.org/guidelines/login.php. The section offers updated information about building code departments and officials, as well as expanded details regarding the current code, energy code, wind speed, fire ratings and more.

National Roofing Partners has launched a new website, www.nationalroofingpartners.com, which features high-resolution imagery and an interactive layout. The website has been released with mobile and tablet versions to reach as many potential clients as possible.

SMRCA announces scholarship winners

The Southeastern Michigan Roofing Contractors Association (SMRCA) Inc. awarded four scholarships to college-bound students at its June 2013 meeting. Commercial roofing contractors in Southeastern Michigan, through SMRCA and Roofers Union Local #149, annually award college scholarships to dependents of employees of member roofing contractors.

This year's winners were John Gagnon, Ferndale, Mich.; Olivia Kowalski, Dearborn Heights, Mich.; Jordan Novelly, Clinton Township, Mich.; and Lucero Toral, Detroit. The winners received $1,000 scholarships contributed by SMRCA, Roofers Union Local #149 and the contractor employers.

Widow of NRCA consultant passes away

Betty Cullen, widow of former NRCA consultant Bill Cullen, passed away June 29. Cullen was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Potomac, Md., and was 86 years old.

Cullen is survived by her children, Mary, Catherine and Michael; and grandchildren, Ryan, Cara and William. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Casey House Montgomery Hospice, 1355 Piccard Drive, Suite 100, Rockville, MD 20850.

METALCON chooses giving-back recipient

Each year, METALCON International's giving-back program donates goods, services and/or funds to nonprofit organizations and worthy causes serving local host communities. This year's recipient is Atlanta-based It's The Journey Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and producer of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.

METALCON International 2013 will be held Oct. 1-3 in Atlanta, and the 11th annual Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer will be held Oct. 5-6. METALCON International, whose team is the Metal Magnolias, has set a donation goal of $25,000.

Metal association introduces new tagline

The Metal Construction Association (MCA) has introduced a new tagline to enhance its brand identity and communicate its purpose and position in the industry. The tagline BUILD LEGACIES: METAL is the result of collaboration between an MCA board-appointed Brand Task Force consisting of member volunteers and association staff. The task force recognized the importance of taking an aspirational stance with a tag-line that would appeal to each of MCA's core audiences: architects, building owners and members of the metal construction industry.

Students win roofing industry scholarships

The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress has announced the winners of its Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarships for the 2013-14 academic year.

This year's new scholarship recipients include Karlee Cox, Clearwater, Minn., daughter of Donald Cox, architectural sheet metal installer for Dalco Roofing & Sheet Metal, Plymouth, Minn., who has been awarded the Firestone Scholarship, and Josiah Martin, Richmond, Va., son of Bruce Martin, estimator and project coordinator for Blue Ridge Roofing Inc., Charlottesville, Va.

The Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarship Program, which permanently replaced the Alliance's previous scholarship program in 2008, provides recipients with $5,000 per year based on eligibility for up to four years of enrollment at an accredited college, university or vocational-technical school. NRCA contractor or supplier member companies' full-time employees or their immediate family members are eligible for the merit-based scholarships.

The Alliance renewed eight Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarships for the 2013-14 academic year. The recipients are Gabriella Abbondanza, Southwick, Mass., who is attending Suffolk University, Boston; Alexis Belote, Red Oak, Texas, who is attending University of Texas at Austin; Sean Cawley, Birmingham, Ala., who is attending Vanderbilt University, Nashville; Neil Hourahan, Saunderstown, R.I., who is attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst; Carter Hruby, Fargo, N.D., who is attending North Dakota State University, Fargo, and was awarded the Fred Good Scholarship; Alexis Plachecki, Taylor, Wis., who is attending University of Minnesota: Twin Cities, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and was awarded a Firestone Scholarship; Jonathan Poore, Harrogate, Tenn., who is attending Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville, and was awarded the Dan Cohen Scholarship; and Kara Sosinski, Hudson, Ohio, who is attending Ohio Northern University, Ada.
