Firestone donates to scholarship fund

Manufacturers are certified

Irving, Texas-based Siplast/Icopal and Valley Forge, Pa.-based CertainTeed Corp.'s Oxford, N.C., facility received ISO 9001:2000 certification from the International Organization for Standards. The certification ensures businesses follow a model for business management, including customer service, purchasing, planning, manufacturing, product service and training techniques. To maintain the certification, facilities are audited every six months.

Perimeter Systems expands sales

Sanford, N.C.-based Perimeter Systems has expanded its sales net-work with the addition of Marshall Ryerson Co., Grand Rapids, Mich., and The Hunt Group, Syracuse, N.Y. The manufacturer representatives sell Perimeter Systems' roof edge products, including gutters, cornices and roof trims, in Michigan and upstate New York, respectively.

"The expansion of our sales team marks our commitment to servicing customers nationwide," says Frank Mills, Perimeter Systems' general manager.



Up the ladder

David D'Anza has been appointed chairman of the board, chief executive officer and president of W.P. Hickman Systems Inc.

Tecta America Corp. has named Michael Arduino vice president and chief financial officer.

Green Products Inc. has hired Edward Krusec as corporate architect and national sales manager.

Vernon McIntyre has been hired as Northeast region sales and marketing manager for Performance Roof Systems Inc.

Carlisle SynTec Inc. has appointed John Calogero controller.

Jim Hanson has been hired as GenFlex Roofing Systems' Wisconsin sales agent.

Contractors merge roofing companies

NRCA member Pfister Roofing, Paterson, N.J., and North American Remodeling & Design, Fair Lawn, N.J., have merged to form North American Pfister Inc. The new company employs a 30-person installation and service staff that operates in northern New Jersey and northern New York.

"Merging our operations allows us to pool the talents of the Pfister Roofing commercial roofing business with the residential experience of North American Remodeling," says Larry Rota, co-owner of North American Pfister.

Union group makes donation

Roofers Local No. 2 and Signatory Roofing Contractors recently donated toys to SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, St. Louis, through their Industry Advancement Fund. The toys will be available in the hospital's playrooms, waiting rooms and patient-care rooms.

The Industry Advancement Fund was developed to maintain and promote the unionized roofing industry in Missouri and Illinois and is funded by Signatory Roofing Contractors.

NRF awards scholarships

The National Roofing Foundation (NRF), a separate but related educational and research organization of NRCA, awarded $1,000 roofing industry scholarships to Christa M. Harder, Buffalo, N.Y.; Whitney A. Liftig, Fort Myers, Fla.; and Kathryn J. Mescher, Mount Vernon, Ill.

Recipients were chosen based on academic record, potential to succeed, leadership, participation in high-school and community activities, honors, work experience, a statement of educational goals and third-party appraisal. Financial need is not considered.

NRF also renewed nine scholarships. The recipients include Ashley N. Auker, Ephrata, Pa., who is attending the University of Delaware, Newark; Colleen E. Erbsen, Salida, Colo., who is attending Colorado State University, Fort Collins; Devin L. Lausch, Akron, Pa., who is attending Penn State University, University Park, Pa.; Abigail E. Lauver, Spring Mills, Pa., who is attending Penn State University; Sarah C. Maxwell, Nashville, Tenn., who is attending the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Jarod W. Olds, Dallas, who is attending Austin College, Sherman, Texas; Melissa M. Pierce, Eau Claire, Wis., who is attending the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis; Jessica L. Watson, South China, Maine, who is attending the University of Maine, Orono; and Nicholas P. Yoder, Erie, Mich., who is attending the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

CRSMCA officers begin terms

The Carolinas Roofing & Sheet Metal Contractors Association (CRSMCA) recently held its 60th Annual Meeting during which the following officers were elected to CRSMCA's associate group: president—Andy Abrams, commercial sales representative for ABC Supply Co., Columbia, S.C.; first vice president—John "Rusty" Kent Jr., president and owner of Roofing Tools & Equipment Co. Inc., Wilson, N.C.; second vice president—Ron Collier, territory manager for TAMKO Roofing Products Inc., Summerville, S.C.; and secretary/treasurer—Scott Carpenter, sales representative for SFS Intec Inc., Locust, N.C. Terms began July 1.

Also during the meeting, Perry Safran, founder of Safran Law Offices, Raleigh, N.C., was awarded the Gordon M. Waters Distinguished Service Award. Safran has been CRSMCA's general counsel for more than 20 years and received the award for service to and leadership in CRSMCA and the roofing industry.

Students to receive free admission

Students who show a valid identification card as proof of secondary- or postsecondary-school enrollment will receive free admission to the Midwest Roofing Contractors Association's 54th Annual Convention and Trade Show Oct. 23-24 at the Cincinnati Convention Center. Students will receive a one-day pass that provides access to the trade-show floor and educational sessions.

Metal group elects officers

The Roofing, Metal & Heating Associates Inc. recently elected the following officers for a three-year term: president—James McCullagh, owner of James J. McCullagh Roofing, Philadelphia; vice president—William Brinkmann, owner of Brinkmann Brothers Roofing, Philadelphia; and treasurer/secretary—Michael Donnelly, owner of John P. Donnelly Roofing, Philadelphia.

White Coatings Council formed

The Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA) has formed the White Coatings Council for manufacturers and private labelers of cold-applied acrylic or elastomeric reflective coatings. The council, which is a new RCMA membership category, functions as part of the association. To facilitate representation, RCMA's board of directors has passed a bylaw that expands the board of directors' size to include two members from the White Coatings Council.

"We felt it was necessary to take this step to ensure this important segment of the roof coatings industry has a clear voice in the organization," says RCMA Membership Chair John Sullivan, vice president of sales for Interfibe Corp., Solon, Ohio.

ASA chapter is formed

The American Subcontractors Association of Northern Ohio (ASANO) Inc. has been formed as a chapter of the American Subcontractors Association (ASA) Inc.

ASANO offers technical workshops and meetings; a monthly newsletter; and a Web site, www.asa-northernohio.org. In addition, all ASANO members automatically are members of ASA.
