Owens Corning releases sustainability report

Owens Corning, Toledo, Ohio, has released its eighth annual sustainability report. The 2013 sustainability report highlights the company's efforts to increase net-positive effects of Owens Corning products; provide market-leading work to drive energy-efficiency and climate-impact improvements across a built environment; and improve the lives of employees, their families and their communities.

The report is the third year the company is reporting against its 2020 goals, designed to expand the scope and further the company's commitment to sustainability. The report also highlights Owens Corning's distinction as winner of the Green Cross for Safety medal from the National Safety Council.

The report is consistent with Global Reporting Initiative Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, a global framework for reporting the economic, environmental and social dimensions of an organization's activities, products and services. Atlas Roofing updates contractor program

Atlas Roofing, Atlanta, has updated its Atlas Signature Select® contractor program with a redesign of the website interface and a new name: Atlas Pro. Atlas Pro accounts are free and provide users with login credentials for the AtlasProAPP™ for iPad, a contractor-centric approach to project management, estimating software and selling tools. The app allows contractors to register warranties, track storms and order marketing materials. In addition, AtlasPro membership allows the option to have Shingle Visualizer installed on a contractor's website. Atlas Pro members also are eligible for rewards, such as unlimited cash earnings, when using the full Atlas products system on roofs.

In addition, Atlas Roofing donated materials to support Operation FINALLY HOME's effort to build a new home for Sergeant Monte Bernardo and his daughter, Felicity, of College Station, Texas. Atlas Roofing donated an Atlas Signature Select® Roofing System to the cause.

CertainTeed helps rebuild veterans' homes

CertainTeed Corp., Valley Forge, Pa., has made a multiyear commitment to Homes for Our Troops, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building specially adapted, mortgage-free homes for severely injured veterans. CertainTeed contributed roofing, insulation and gypsum wallboard products to 40 homes throughout the U.S. Each home is outfitted with a complete CertainTeed Integrity Roof System™ composed of underlayment, shingles, accessory products, ventilation and complete interior wall systems.

GAF sweepstakes enters final round

GAF, Wayne, N.J., announced the third and final round of its Enter for an Experience sweepstakes, giving roofing contractors the chance to win one of three unique life experiences with major celebrities. The first two rounds of the sweepstakes featured a ride-along with Paul Teutul Sr. from the television shows "American Chopper" and "Orange County Choppers" and an all-expenses paid trip to visit the set of a reality TV show.

During the final round of the sweepstakes, roofing contractors can enter the "Get Cruising" contest from July 15 to Sept. 15 to win round-trip air and ground transportation and a suite on Kid Rock's "Chillin' the Most" cruise. The cruise will feature two Kid Rock pool-deck shows, a full lineup of bands and artists, contests throughout the day and night, and a special party on a private island. All meals will be provided on the cruise along with special celebrations and amenities. The grand-prize winner also will receive a $1,000 Visa® PrePaid card. Tremco launches program in Canada

Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance, Beachwood, Ohio, has introduced its SkyBEAM™ building envelope asset mapping program for use in Canada. Through a relationship with Toronto-based Industrial SkyWorks, the program uses unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with high-resolution thermographic and video cameras to help building owners locate energy deficiencies in roofs, façades or other areas, and help locate wet insulation or other potential problems. The thermographic camera graphically depicts energy inefficiencies by showing temperature variations within a building.

ABC Supply acquires distributor

ABC Supply Co. Inc., Beloit, Wis., has acquired the assets of Belleville, Ill.-based Dealers Service & Supply, a distributor of roofing, siding, windows and doors with locations in Belleville; Kirkwood, Mo.; and St. Louis. The three new locations will complement ABC Supply's six existing branches in the St. Louis area. All associates of Dealers Service & Supply will remain with the organization.

CRSMCA announces new officers

The Carolinas Roofing & Sheet Metal Contractors Association Inc. (CRSMCA) announced its 2014-15 officers June 28 during CRSMCA's annual banquet.

The following were named to CRSMCA's Executive Committee: Wes Williamson, president of Skyline Roofing Inc., Charleston, S.C., is president; Tom Smith, CEO and owner of Barger-Ashe Roofing Co., Lenoir, N.C., is first vice president; David Griffin, president and director of operations of Coastal Commercial Roofing Co. Inc., Conway, S.C., is second vice president; Todd Smith, vice president of Hamlin Roofing Co. Inc., Garner, N.C., is secretary/treasurer; and Wes Wilkinson, president of The Ray Company Inc., Charlotte, N.C., is immediate past president.

The following were named to CRSMCA's Associate Group Executive Committee: Brandon Jackson, Carolina sales manager at Petersen Aluminum Corp., Charlotte, N.C., is president; Christian Pettway, branch manager at RSG Columbia, Columbia, S.C., is first vice president; Mike Broski, senior sales representative at Johns Manville, Wake Forest, N.C., is second vice president; Ryan Walsh, owner of W.R. Walsh Inc., Greensboro, N.C., is secretary/treasurer; and Kris Locke, manager at B&L Distributing Co. Inc. of SC, Myrtle Beach, S.C., is immediate past president.

In addition, CRSMCA awarded Greg Jones, founder and president of Premier Building Products, Charlotte, N.C., with the Gordon M. Waters Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor awarded to a CRSMCA member. Jones served as Associate Group Executive Committee president during 1998-99, served an additional four years on the Associate Group board and volunteered for a number of CRSMCA committees and roundtable discussions. He is recognized for his many years of service to the association and the roofing industry.

Contractor passes away

Cole

Roland (Bud) H. Cole, former president of Cole Roofing Co. Inc., Baltimore, passed away April 17. He was 87 years old.

Cole was president of Cole Roofing from 1968 to 1989. The company formerly was known as John H. Cole & Sons Inc. and was founded by his late father in 1919. In addition to being a long-standing member of NRCA, Cole was a charter member of the Associated Roofing Contractors of Maryland and was active in the American Subcontractors Association and Building Congress and Exchange.

Cole was preceded in death by his late wife Bette and is survived by his wife, Annabelle; siblings, Barbara, Carl, Mary and Lillie; children, Barbara, Beth, Bette Anne, Bonnie and William; grandchildren, Abby, Billy, Brendan, Chelsea, Jessica, Joel, Josh, Katie, Laurie, Meaghan, Robby and Tommy; and eight great-grandchildren. Contractor's wife passes away

Swope

Annette Harrell Swope, wife of Morris Swope, co-founder of Tampa Roofing Co., Tampa, Fla., passed away June 26. She was 72 years old.

Swope is survived by her husband, Morris; siblings, Laverne, Louis and Mila; children, Deena, Keith, Theresa, Vicky and Wesley; grandchildren, Ashton, Brian, Brittney, Camdon, Garrett and Joshua; and four great-grandchildren. Copper group holds award ceremony

The Copper Development Association has announced the winners of its 2014 North American Copper in Architecture Award (NACIA). The NACIA awards program was established in 2008 and promotes projects displaying innovation and excellence in architectural copper applications. The projects are selected in three categories: New Construction, Renovation/Restoration and Ornamental Applications. The projects were judged by a panel of architectural and copper industry experts and were evaluated based on overall building design, integration of copper, craft of copper installation, and excellence in innovation or historic restoration.

Two NRCA members were honored with NACIA awards: Skyline Restoration Inc., Long Island City, N.Y., was recognized for a restoration/renovation project at 6 Harrison St., New York, N.Y., and Grove Roofing Services Inc., Buffalo, N.Y., was recognized for an ornamental project at the Frank Lloyd Wright Filling Station, Buffalo, N.Y.

Fleetmatics distributes white paper

Fleetmatics Group PLC, Waltham, Mass., has co-authored a white paper with San Francisco-based Fleet Safety Institute titled "Ensuring Fleet and Driver Safety: How Technology Helps Service Businesses Adhere to Regulations and Protect Employees."
