Owens Corning Sales enters agreement

Owens Corning Sales LLC, Toledo, Ohio, has reached an agreement with Mid-States Asphalt & Cant Strip Inc., Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Mid-States Asphalt & Cant Strip now has the exclusive sales of Owens Corning Sales' Trumbull® Built-up Roofing Asphalt products in the continental U.S. except the upper Northeast, which will continue to be served by United Sales Agency LLC, East Syracuse, N.Y. The agreement became effective Oct. 1.

GAF Materials and Dow Building Solutions earn recognition

GAF Materials Corp., Wayne, N.J., and Dow Building Solutions, Midland, Mich., have received the Partners of Choice Award, each for the seventh consecutive year, from David Weekley Homes, a Houston-based residential home builder. The award is part of David Weekley Homes' supplier evaluation program. Seventeen of 150 companies evaluated were recognized with this honor.

The Partners of Choice Award is based on David Weekley Homes' world-class National Trading Partner Survey in which 500 of its team members are surveyed and asked to rank trading partners in quality and service with a score from one to 10. The scores for each company are averaged, and an alpha rating is assigned relative to the company's ranking with other suppliers. Alpha ratings range from A to F in increments of 20 percent.

Dow Building Solutions earned straight A's in quality and service from David Weekley Homes, and GAF Materials received an A in quality.

Roofing professional passes away

Richard Dennis Barbeau of Coatesville, Pa., former field sales representative for Mule-Hide Products Co. Inc., Beloit, Wis., passed away July 27. He was 53 years old.

Before joining Mule-Hide Products in 1998, Barbeau worked on the distribution side of the roofing industry, including six years in outside sales for ABC Supply Co. Inc., Beloit.

Barbeau is survived by his wife, Marguerite; mother, Ellen; daughter, Amanda; grandson, Declan; and six siblings.

Quick Mount PV purchases facility

Quick Mount PV, Concord, Calif., has purchased a 133,000-square-foot property in Walnut Creek, Calif., and will move all company operations into the facility mid-first quarter 2012.

The Walnut Creek facility includes a 90,000-square-foot building and a separate 43,000-square-foot office and research and development building.

Quick Mount PV also plans to hire an additional 20 employees.

National Roofing Partners appoints new president and CEO

National Roofing Partners, Dallas, has named Dale Tyler president. The decision was approved with a unanimous vote by the board of directors. Additionally, Steve Little was promoted from president to chief executive officer (CEO).

Little had a pivotal role in the company's creation in 2005 and has since been involved with its growth. Tyler assumed his position of general manager for National Roofing Partners in January and has provided leadership within the company.

Son of former NRCA president passes away

Brian Jeffrey Stephenson, son of former NRCA President George Stephenson, founder and chairman of Stephenson Roofing Co., St. Louis, Mo., passed away in August. He was 63 years old.

Stephenson is survived by his mother, Lila; father, George; and brothers Tom, Jim and John. He is preceded in death by his brother, George Stephenson Jr.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the George E. Stephenson Jr. Memorial Fund at 109 Reynolds Alumni Center, Columbia, MO 65201.

Presidential candidate visits D.C. Taylor

Presidential candidate and Texas Gov. Rick Perry visited D.C. Taylor Co., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as part of his Midwest bus tour. Perry spent an hour speaking with D.C. Taylor President Phil Suess about the business, touring the company's headquarters, meeting employees and speaking about creating jobs.

Perry also greeted more than 60 D.C. Taylor employees from across the U.S. who were in Cedar Rapids for a training session. Perry, along with his wife and family, learned about issues facing the commercial roofing industry and how the company has managed to hire 232 employees since 2008.

MRCA awards scholarships

The Midwest Roofing Contractors Association Foundation, a nonprofit organization established by the Midwest Roofing Contractors Association (MRCA), has awarded 12 $1,000 scholarships for the 2011-12 school year.

Scholarship recipients are selected by the MRCA Foundation Board based on application materials. The winners will be recognized at the MRCA 62nd Annual Conference Oct. 26-28 in Rosemont, Ill.
