What is your position within your company?
I am president and chief executive officer of RJH & Associates Inc., Destin, Fla.

What is the most unusual roofing project of which you have been a part?
Renovating the American Heritage Center for the University of Wyoming, Laramie—it is a nine-story building shaped like a teepee, and the steep-slope roof and exterior wall are made of copper panels. The building was designed by renowned architect Antoine Predock and is quite unusual.

What is your roofing industry involvement?
I have been a member of RCI Inc. for 11 years, and I have served on its board of directors for the past few years, most recently elected to its Executive Committee as secretary/treasurer with hopes of continuing to the president position.

Captain Lance Sijan, Vietnam War Medal of Honor winner

Why did you become involved in the roofing industry?
I was initially hired by an engineering firm specializing in roofing, waterproofing and exterior walls after I earned my undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University, College Station. My first couple of years were heavily involved in roof system analysis, design, restoration and oversight during construction.

People would be surprised to know …
I was a volunteer firefighter for seven years in Texas.

What animal would you say best matches your personality?
A lion

What is a motto you live by?
Work hard, play hard

What is your favorite vacation?
I like to go to many different places. This past summer, my wife and I spent a couple of weeks in Ireland and Scotland. That trip was definitely one of our favorites.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An astronaut

What's the most exciting/adventurous thing you've done?
I have always liked to do extreme activities. I have been scuba diving all over, have done nearly 100 free-fall skydive jumps and most recently I ran the 50-mile ultra-marathon in Florida, "The World's Longest Beach Run."

What's your favorite food?
Steak

What is your fondest childhood memory?
My first Houston Astros game in the Astrodome with my dad watching Nolan Ryan and José Cruz play

My favorite part about working in the roofing industry is …
Solving people's problems—I really like helping building owners figure out their problems, design the solutions, and work with a contractor as a team to install roof systems on their buildings that will perform and function as intended.

What is your favorite stress reliever?
Running and working out
