What is your position within your company?
I am director of sales for Deer Park Roofing Inc., Cincinnati.

What are the most unusual roofing projects of which you have been a part?
Deer Park Roofing specializes in the design and installation of built-in gutter systems. We’ve completed large copper gutter projects such as the Boone County Courthouse in northern Kentucky, as well as historical houses, churches and other buildings in Indiana, Kentucky, North Dakota and Ohio. We also completed a roofing project on Abraham Lincoln’s childhood home.

What quality do you most admire in a person?
I believe the true character of a person is defined by his or her integrity.

Why did you become involved in the roofing industry?
My stepfather owned a roofing company, and I worked with him during my high school summers. I’d carry materials, clean up and learn as much as I could.

What was your first roofing experience?
My stepfather asked if I wanted to earn extra money, so I agreed to help out at his company. I didn’t realize the work would be so hard—I’d leave the job site at 6 p.m. and fall asleep at home by 7 p.m. just to wake up and do it all over again.

People would be surprised to know ...
I was a goalie for my high school’s ice hockey team.

What is your roofing industry involvement?
I participated in the pilot program to provide feedback for NRCA ProCertification,™ and I currently am enrolled in Class 9 of NRCA University’s Future Executives Institute. I’ve also been involved with the Kentucky Roofing Contractors Association and Metal Construction Association.

What was your first job?
I worked as a paperboy delivering newspapers when I was 6 years old. I’m grateful to have learned about work ethic at a young age.

My favorite part about working in the roofing industry is ...
Providing customers peace of mind knowing their buildings will no longer experience water intrusion. During my time working in the field, managing the repair department and sales, it always has been fulfilling to talk to owners after their roofs are fixed and hearing the relief in their voices.

What’s your favorite roofing material to work with? Why?
I enjoy working with sheet metal. There is a beauty to its functionality, and it’s rewarding to look back and see the finished product.

What’s the most exciting/adventurous thing you’ve done?
I recently went skydiving with friends. It was hands-down the most exciting thing I’ve done!

What three condiments always are in your fridge?
Hot sauce, ketchup and mayonnaise

If you had a time machine, would you go to the future or the past? Why?
I would go to the past. It would be great to be considered one of the men who built the U.S. into what it is today.

What is your favorite stress reliever?
I enjoy playing golf though it can induce stress as much as relieve it.

What do you consider your most rewarding experience?
My most rewarding experience was donating a roof system, painting and landscaping work to a local customer in need. She sought help from Deer Park Roofing to manage a failing roof on a house containing her late sister’s personal items. The city had asked her to get everything cleaned up because of complaints. We decided to donate our time to clean up for her at no cost. She cried tears of joy when we surprised her with the good news.
