Repellent discourages birds

Bird-X Inc. has introduced Bird-Proof, a bird-repellent compound that is said to discourage birds from landing or nesting on surfaces. The repellent's gel formulation, applied with a caulking gun, and liquid formulation, applied by pressure sprayer or paint brush for hard-to-reach areas, are said to have a tacky feeling birds avoid.

Bird-Proof sets semi-clear and can be applied to any surface. It reportedly is effective for a year or more—even under extreme weather conditions—and is said to be odorless, nonpoisonous and environmentally friendly.

Lanyard is tough

DBI/SALA & Protecta has introduced the WrapBax™2, a tie-back shock-absorbing lanyard that is said to eliminate the need for anchor straps on a roof.

Modified bitumen system offers solutions

Republic Powdered Metals Inc. has introduced its Permaroof® MB System—a line of modified bitumen membranes, base sheets and ply sheets—available in hot asphalt, cold-adhesive or self-stick assemblies.

Permaroof MB membranes are fiberglass- or polyester-reinforced and reportedly provide added strength and tear resistance. No hot adhesives or torches are required for application. Permaroof MB ply sheets are polymer-modified, tri-laminate-reinforced and fiberglass-reinforced and reportedly resist rotting, tearing and splitting. Knife is safe

C.H. Hanson Co. has introduced MAG KNIFE,™ a knife said to offer fast, safe blade changes and allow users to open it with one hand. MAG KNIFE has a built-in magnet said to hold the blade and channel in place until the tool is shut and locked.

Cap sheet saves energy

GAF Materials Corp. has introduced its EnergyCap™ BUR Cap Sheet, which combines its GAFGLAS® BUR felt and Topcoat® roof coating into a single, ENERGY STAR®-qualified cap sheet.

The EnergyCap BUR Cap Sheet is said to be "brilliant white" and have up to three times the reflectivity of a standard white cap sheet. The EnergyCap BUR Cap Sheet also is said to reduce labor costs by more than 25 percent compared with site-applied coatings.

Primer applies easily

Mule-Hide Products Co. Inc. has added SA-MB Water Base Vertical Primer to its line of self-adhering modified bitumen products. The primer is acrylic, latex-based and designed to prime vertical substrates before application of Mule-Hide SA-Mod Bit Base Sheet, SA-Mod Bit SBS Cap Sheet or SA-Mod Bit APP Cap Sheet.

SA-MB Water Base Vertical Primer is nonflammable and nontoxic and reportedly allows a wide application temperature range. The primer is said to apply easily and smoothly for fast installation and can be sprayed, rolled or brushed on almost any substrate. Tiles are weather-resistant

U.S. Tile Co. has introduced its Montoro™ clay roof tiles that are said to provide strength and insulation against temperature and weather. The tiles reportedly have a water-absorption rate of less than 6 percent and are guaranteed safe for use in areas subject to repeated freeze-thaw cycling or salt spray.

Montoro roof tiles are available in Tuscan and French profiles. The Tuscan profile features a flat-pan-with-barrel design that is said to create clean lines, and the French profile features a two-valley shape that is said to give the roof line a look of texture. Both profiles are available in a range of colors and finishes.

Owens Corning has introduced WeatherGuard® HP shingles, which feature a composite construction that is said to retain protective granules during periods of severe weather; spun-bound, impact-resistant webbing at the shingle base; and Tru-Bond® sealant that is said to maximize holding power during high winds.

Saw offers extended blade life

Metabo Corp. has introduced its ASE 18 cordless reciprocating saw, which features Metabo's "Quick" blade-change system for tool-free blade changes and an adjustable depth stop that is said to control the length of the cut and allow the operator to use the entire length of the blade evenly, extending blade life.

The ASE 18 uses an air-cooled battery system said to result in 30 percent faster charging and an increased service life of up to 2,000 charges. The ASE 18 delivers up to 2,700 strokes per minute.
