Shingles resemble wood shake

GAF Materials Corp. has released its Grand Timberline™ premium architectural shingles that feature highly contrasted color blends and are the largest and thickest Timberline shingle.

The Grand Timberline shingles are 17 inches by 40 inches and said to be 33 percent thicker and up to 50 percent larger than standard architectural shingles. They also are said to replicate the appearance of traditional "sawn" wood shakes at a fraction of the cost of more expensive wood shakes.

The product also features GAF Materials' Super-Heavyweight "Plus" construction for durability; a double row of Dura Grip™ adhesive to reduce blow-off risk; and Micro Weave® core for protection. The shingles are said to withstand winds of up to 110 mph.

Batten system offers protection

High Peaks Materials LLC has introduced The Riser—Roof Batten Booster,™ a counter batten system that is said to protect against underlayment lift, provide airflow under tile and reduce deflection in batten.

The Riser elevates traditional 8-foot wooden battens and uses polypropylene blocks placed 12 inches and 16 inches on center and attached to a nontear strip. Use of the strap is said to install the system three times faster than a lath. The product is said to be easy to use and offers low cost and labor savings.

Shingles are impact-resistant

CertainTeed Corp. has introduced its Landmark™ TL IR tri-laminate asphalt roof shingle, which has a fiberglass scrim on its back surface for durability and is said to withstand significant impact. The thick shingle has the appearance of wood shakes.

Landmark TL IR's three-piece laminated fiberglass construction is said to be impervious to rot and leakage that can result from wood roofing materials. It weighs 340 pounds per square, is algae-resistant and protects against winds of up to 110 mph.

Cool roofing option offered

Flex Membrane International has made available a cool roofing version of its Single-Ply and Multi-Ply Roofing Systems, which is said to offer significant energy savings. Flex White Roofing Systems are said to have reflectivity and emissivity values that lower roof and building temperatures, as well as the ability to reduce air conditioning demands by 10 percent to 15 percent.

The Flex White Membranes are said to reflect up to 87 percent of ultraviolet rays and result in energy savings of up to 50 percent in hot climates and 30 percent in moderate climates.

Cargo system offers versatility

The GearDeck 17™ System from Let's Go Aero is a hitch-mounted multipurpose modular system that functions as an enclosed hauler, open platform cargo carrier or hitch rack. The system is said to be low-maintenance and install easily on a vehicle.

GearDeck 17 features a high-density polyethylene lid with 17 cubic feet of enclosed space that is said to be dry and secure. Attachment points for tying down equipment are provided on each end of the system's tray.
