Insulating coating resists mold

Industrial Nanotech Inc. has introduced its Nansulate® Crystal Clear Protective Roof Coating for concrete or clay tile, slate, or wood or asphalt shingle steep-slope roof systems.

Nansulate Crystal is said to insulate and protect with a moisture-, mold- and ultraviolet-resistant formula that reduces heat transfer to lower energy demand. It can be applied with a brush, roller or sprayer. The coating is clear with a matte finish and insulates without changing a roof's appearance. The coating is water-based and nontoxic and has low odor and low volatile organic compound content.

Energy-efficient tiles resemble clay

Eagle Roofing Products has introduced its Artisan energy-efficient tiles inspired by the appearance of authentic handmade clay tile. Artisan tiles currently are available in the company's Capistrano profile and various color combinations.

The tiles reportedly have highly reflective surfaces and are Class A fire-rated.

Sealant is flexible

Vapor barrier functions as temporary roof

Firestone Building Products Co. LLC has made available its V-Force™ Vapor Barrier Membrane for commercial buildings. It can be used as a vapor barrier and self-adhering temporary roof.

The V-Force membrane can be used over concrete, plywood, DensDeck® Prime roof board, exterior gypsum and other Firestone Building Products-approved substrates primed with V-Force solvent- or water-based primer. Its surface reportedly is non-slip and puncture- and ultraviolet-resistant and can be left exposed to the elements for up to three months, allowing it to function as a temporary roof.

Additionally, Firestone Building Products has introduced its UltraPly™ TPO SA membrane, a self-adhering white TPO membrane for the commercial building industry. The membrane reportedly is easy to install, energy-efficient and combines flexibility with a factory-applied, pressure-sensitive, hot-melt adhesive on the membrane's backside.

Roof board is reinforced with glass

CertainTeed Corp. has made available its GlasRoc® Roof Board, a moisture-, mold- and fire-resistant, high-performance alternative to fiberboard and perlite cover boards.

GlasRoc Roof Board features Embedded Glass Reinforced Gypsum™ technology, which consists of reinforcing glass mats fully embedded into a water-resistant gypsum core. The technology provides durability by preventing delamination of the glass mat facers. The board reportedly is lightweight, easy to install and cuts like regular gypsum board.

Underlayment is easy to install

Henry Co. offers its Blueskin® Roof Tile & Metal self-adhering roof underlayment engineered for low- and steep-slope roof systems. The underlayment reportedly features high-temperature performance, best-in-class adhesion, a slip-resistant top film surface and a selvage edge for a watertight seal.

Stapler features firing modes

Duo-Fast® Construction has introduced the DF150-CS Cap Stapler for installing roofing felt, plastic sheathing and house wrap materials. An in-line magazine keeps the stapler compact and balanced for consistent, precise drives. The tool is said to be one of the lightest in its class.

Duo-Fast Construction's 240-cap spool system complements the DF150-CS Cap Stapler's 110-staple capacity. The stapler's open-loading design reportedly makes reloading quick and easy. Users can choose from three firing modes—bump, sequential and staple. When driving caps and fasteners, the stapler drives 3/8-inch crown staples 1 inch in length. In staple mode, the stapler can drive narrow-crown staples 3/4 of an inch to 11/2 inches long.

Foil panels block heat

Timber Products Co. has introduced its radiant barrier foil softwood plywood panels for roof construction. The panels reportedly help lower attic temperatures.

The pre-applied foil wrap on the structural softwood plywood panels reportedly acts as a barrier to block 97 percent of radiant heat. The 4x8 panels are 15/32, 19/32 and 23/32 of an inch thick and designed for warm climates.

Hard hat lanyards are comfortable
