Insulation delivers fire resistance

Johns Manville has introduced ENRGY 3®.E, polyisocyanurate insulation inherently fire-resistant without added halogenated flame retardants, to its polyisocyanurate product line.

The insulation features a reactive polymer modifier to improve cell structure and foam properties and reportedly meets Class A fire ratings in low-slope roof assemblies. The insulation has comparable fire, mechanical and thermal-performance characteristics and is said to have the highest R-value per inch of any commonly used roofing insulation.

Roof coatings provide weather protection

Polyglass® U.S.A. Inc. has introduced its Kool Roof Solutions® advanced silicone roof coatings line, including water-based and solvent-based options, primers and accessories.

The silicone coatings are inorganic and moisture-cured, providing a seamless, flexible and durable protective barrier against weather elements, such as ultraviolet radiation, extreme temperatures, rain, ice and snow. The silicone coatings also reportedly improve ponding water protection; reduce energy costs; are fungal- and algae-resistant; and follow National Sanitation Foundation Protocol P151 for rainwater catchment.

The silicone coatings are available in two options: Polybrite 90, a premium-grade, high-solids, single-component silicone roof coating, and Polybrite 95, a solvent-based, ready-to-use silicone roof coating. The silicone coatings are available in white or "kool grey" and can be purchased in 5-gallon pails or 50-gallon drums.

Standing-seam attachment system provides strength

Sno Gem Inc. has introduced the PV Cube™ standing-seam attachment system, a clamp-to-seam solar panel racking and mounting system that uses WaveLock™ technology with three points of attachment.

The standing-seam attachment system includes Silver Bullet™ set screws with rounded bullet tips to maximize strength without damaging paint finishes or piercing seams.

The system is available in four profiles: PV Cube, PV Cube Wide, PV Cube Mini and PV Cube Zip. The system is made of aircraft-grade aluminum extrusion and is available in standard mill finish aluminum material; painting and mounting kits are not required.

Knives are compact

DEWALT® has introduced the Folding Pocket Knife (model DWHT10272) and the Folding Auto-Load Knife (model DWHT10261) for convenient job-site cutting.

The Folding Pocket Knife features a stainless-steel blade for rust resistance and is lightweight and thin. The knife is ideal for quick cutting on job sites and has a combination blade with serrated and straight edges; a thumb stud to make it easy to open; a tanto-tip design to pierce through tough materials; and a liner lock to secure the knife blade in the open position.

The Folding Auto-Load Knife automatically loads a new blade to save time on job sites. When a utility blade dulls, a blade-release button removes the blade while a slider loads a new blade. The compact, slender knife can store up to three blades and accepts standard utility blades; special blade packs are not required.

Hammers are designed to reduce vibration

STANLEY® has introduced two new FATMAX® Anti-Vibe® 2-Piece Hammers: the 17-ounce Framer Hammer (model FMHT51244) and the 14-ounce Nailer Hammer (model FMHT51249).

The hammers are constructed of a two-piece steel core wrapped in multiple layers of dampening materials; have a shock-absorbing collar between the head and handle; and have black exposed steel under the head to provide over-strike protection. The framer hammer features a checkered face design to reduce slipping of nails when striking and a magnetic nail starter for one-handed nail placement; the nailer hammer features a smooth face.

In addition, STANLEY has introduced two new measuring tapes to its FATMAX® Auto-Locking Tape lineup: the 16-foot FATMAX auto-locking tape rule (model FMHT33316) and 30-foot FATMAX auto-locking tape rule (model FMHT33348).

The measuring tapes have 1 1/4-inch Mylar®- and BladeArmour®-coated blades that automatically lock at their extended lengths, and True-Zero™ end hooks provide accurate measurements. The measuring tapes feature a manual mode, a setting used to override the auto-locking mechanism to become a traditional retractable tape. The measuring tapes also feature a customizable hook system to help users configure their tapes for the right application.

NRCA releases new publications

NRCA has introduced Guidelines for Complying With Building Codes Using ANSI/SPRI ES-1 and NRCA Guidelines for Architectural Metal Flashings.

Guidelines for Complying With Building Codes Using ANSI/SPRI ES-1 addresses building code compliance with ANSI/SPRI ES-1, "Wind Design Standard for Edge Systems Used with Low Slope Roof Systems." The document provides guidelines and technical information about design, materials, fabrication and installation of edge-metal flashings in compliance with ANSI-SPRI ES-1 and applicable requirements of the International Building Code.® It also contains information from ASCE 7, "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures." The guidelines provide examples to illustrate procedures for determining design wind-load pressures, design resistance-capacity calculations and using the results to select appropriate edge-metal flashings from NRCA's UL certification program.

NRCA Guidelines for Architectural Metal Flashings includes comprehensive information about metal used in low- and steep-slope roof systems. The guidelines also provide design considerations such as joinery, protective coatings and galvanic action.
