Roof collapse could be the result of accumulated snow

On Jan. 20, the roof of an arena in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Canada, collapsed, according to globalnews.ca. Two sections of the Quonset-style structure caved in; one person was inside the building but escaped uninjured.

Town officials believe the significant amount of accumulated snow on the roof led to its collapse; however, they are waiting for the official determination from a structural engineer. In addition, officials are seeking direction from the engineer regarding a fairly new multiplex next to the arena because the town is concerned further collapse could damage the neighboring building.

CNA, Chicago, provides tips regarding snow removal. For more information, click here.
