Roof collapse could be the result of accumulated snow
On Jan. 20, the roof of an arena in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Canada, collapsed, according to globalnews.ca
. Two sections of the Quonset-style structure caved in; one person was inside the building but escaped uninjured.
Town officials believe the significant amount of accumulated snow on the roof led to its collapse; however, they are waiting for the official determination from a structural engineer. In addition, officials are seeking direction from the engineer regarding a fairly new multiplex next to the arena because the town is concerned further collapse could damage the neighboring building.
