A new audience

This past summer, we began planning our editorial calendar for 2008 and realized Professional Roofing—and NRCA, for that matter—has much to offer an important segment of the roofing industry: roofing workers.

Professional Roofing's editorial team decided we should and would try to reach that audience and began putting together the special publication that mailed with contractors' April issue: Professional Roofing Workers. (If you aren't a contractor and didn't receive the special publication, it is available online at www.professionalroofing.net.)

Professional Roofing Workers will be, we hope, a valuable resource for roofing crews. It reinforces safety issues and addresses roof system installation, how to plan for retirement and what running a roofing contracting company really entails.

In addition, the winners of Professional Roofing's first Best of the Best Award are showcased in the special cover feature that illustrates how a career in roofing not only is viable but rewarding and challenging, as well.

We are planning additional special publications in the future; final details are yet to be determined. But we need to hear from you and roofing workers.

Let us know what you think about the issue. Tell us whether we hit the right issues or missed something entirely. If you discuss a particular article with an employee, share the experience with us. If they like what they see, workers can subscribe to Professional Roofing online for free, as well, which will enable them to receive the magazine and subsequent special publications.

You can contact me at (847) 493-7555 or abailey@nrca.net. You also can contact Krista Reisdorf, NRCA's director of communications, who is editor of Professional Roofing Workers, at (847) 493-7531 or kreisdorf@nrca.net.

We hope Professional Roofing Workers helps contractors—and their crews—continue to be successful.

Ambika Puniani Bailey is editor of Professional Roofing and NRCA's senior director of communications.
