Accurence receives award

Accurence Inc., Westminster, Colo., received the 2012 Red Herring Top 100 Americas Award. The award recognizes the leading private companies from North America and celebrates each company's innovations and technologies across their respective industries.

Accurence received the award for its cloud-based solutions, which standardize on-site inspection and automate scope creation for wind and hail claims.

GAF announces sweepstakes

GAF, Wayne, N.J., has announced its 2012 Text-For-A-Truck sweepstakes, which will end Aug. 31. Professional roofing contractors or builders and remodelers in the U.S. can enter to win a Ford® F-150 truck. GAF is giving away five trucks this year, and each is filled with a GAF Lifetime Roofing System.

Those eligible can enter by texting GAF TRUCK to 41411 from their cell phones; visiting gaftextforatruck.com; scanning a code found on the promotional flyer; or visiting m.gaftextforatruck.com from their cell phones' Web browsers. A grand-prize winner will be selected from each of GAF's five sales areas. GAF also will be awarding 10 Visa® gift cards worth $500 each and 25 job-site radios.

GAF also has launched the GAF Master Rewards Program, a new offer for GAF Master Select™ Commercial Roofing Contractors and Master Elite™ Roofing Contractors. Through the program, contractors within these designations can earn rewards for guaranteeing squares on their jobs. By participating in the program, GAF Master Select Commercial Roofing Contractors and Master Elite Roofing Contractors can use their reward dollars to purchase clothing, business-building tools, vacation travel and more. To receive these rewards, contractors must purchase, register and close Diamond Pledge,™ System Pledge™ or All-American Pledge™ guarantees for a required number of squares. Purchases made since Jan. 1 will qualify.

Additionally, GAF has announced the winners of its three-month-long contest for commercial property photography. Three winners were selected, and each received $10,000 from GAF. The contest was divided into three categories to cover various roofing materials. EverGuard® TPO or PVC membranes had to be used on buildings submitted in the single-ply category. The category also allowed for solar or vegetative roofing materials on the membrane. The asphaltic category required Ruberoid® APP or SBS polymer-modified bitumen membranes or a built-up system featuring GAFGLAS® be used on a low-slope roof system. And the commercial steep-slope category required GAF shingles or an EverGuard TPO membrane be used on a steep-slope commercial roof system.

NRCA member Tecta America Southeast LLC, Sanford, Fla., won in the single-ply category for its Sanford building. The property features a GAF EverGuard TPO membrane and includes a vegetative roof section, solar energy system and multiple daylighting skylights.

NRCA member Kidd Roofing of Austin, Texas, won in the asphaltic category for its renovation of Williamson County Courthouse in Georgetown, Texas. A GAF Ruberoid polymer-modified bitumen membrane was used during the renovation.

Building Maintenance Corp., Peabody, Mass., won in the steep-slope commercial category for its work on Wellington Hills Apartments in Manchester, N.H. GAF Timberline® shingles were installed on the steep-slope sections and an EverGuard Freedom™ self-adhering TPO membrane was installed under the HVAC housings on the low-slope sections.

Duo-Fast® introduces service promise

Duo-Fast has introduced a no-questions-asked, one-year service promise on its fuel-powered Cordless Roofing Nailer System, model DFCR175C.

Duo-Fast will be responsible for servicing and repairing its tools through ITW Construction Service & Parts, a business unit of Illinois Tool Works (ITW) that provides replacement parts and factory direct service for ITW Construction Products companies. Duo-Fast will pay shipping costs to and from the service center and offers a three-day turnaround upon receipt of the tools. If a tool cannot be repaired, Duo-Fast will replace it for free.

MBCI® opens new facility

MBCI, Houston, held the grand opening of its new 116,000-square-foot insulated metal panel manufacturing facility in Mattoon, Ill., June 28. The new facility doubles MBCI's current insulated metal panel capacity and is the second insulated metal panel facility MBCI has opened during the past two years.

Carlisle SynTec Systems employees finalize agreement

Two Carlisle, Pa.-based Carlisle SynTec Systems employees have finalized an agreement with Cumberland Valley School District, Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Nicholas Shears, vice president of sales and marketing for Carlisle SynTec Systems, and Mike DuCharme, director of product marketing for the company, filed a lawsuit in 2009 arguing the district's use of the Association of Educational Purchasing Agencies (AEPA) purchasing cooperative avoids state competitive bidding laws, resulting in higher costs for taxpayers.

The district admits no wrongdoing but has agreed to comply with state competitive bidding laws and stop using purchasing cooperatives such as AEPA, Pennsylvania Education Joint Purchasing Council and others.

Quick Mount PV® holds ribbon-cutting ceremony

Quick Mount PV, Walnut Creek, Calif., held a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 27 at its recently purchased Walnut Creek facility. The company purchased the 133,600-square-foot property located in Walnut Creek's Shadelands Business Park in summer 2011. The ceremony featured a building tour and remarks by Elizabeth B. Echols, regional administrator for the Small Business Administration.

ABC Supply receives award

ABC Supply Co. Inc., Beloit, Wis., has received the 2012 Gallup® Great Workplace Award for the sixth consecutive year. The award recognizes the best-performing work forces throughout the world. ABC Supply is one of 27 in the world to receive the 2012 award and one of three six-time winners.

The awards were presented during the Gallup Summit Spring 2012 held in Omaha, Neb. David Luck, ABC Supply's chief executive officer and president, was a featured presenter during the conference and spoke about how the company's core values have driven engagement at ABC Supply and fueled the company's growth.

The Gallup Great Workplace Award is based on rigorous statistical research. Companies considered for the award were evaluated by a panel of workplace experts who compared each company's results to results from other companies. The award is based on multiple criteria, including response rates, overall engagement levels and evidence of engagement's impact on performance.

SRS Acquisition opens new locations

SRS Acquisition Corp., McKinney, Texas, has opened four new locations—one in Modesto, Calif., under the Roofline Supply name; one in Mansfield, Texas, under the Southern Shingles name; one in Louisville, Ky., under the River City Wholesale name; and one in Herndon, Va., under the Superior Distribution name. All locations will carry full lines of residential and commercial roofing products and focus on serving each area's premier roofing contractors, remodeling contractors and home builders.

The Modesto location will service the central California market and be a satellite facility to the existing Sacramento, Calif., Roofline Supply location. The Modesto location will help connect the existing branches in Oakland, Calif.; Sacramento; and San Jose, Calif., with the Bakersfield, Calif., location to the south.

The Mansfield location will service Fort Worth, Texas, and Arlington, Texas, as well as the surrounding markets. It is the fourth Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, location and adds to existing Texas branches in Coppell, Dallas and Keller.

The Louisville location will service the greater Louisville area and surrounding markets.

The Herndon location will service the greater Washington, D.C., metro area, including Fairfax, Va.; Loudoun County, Va.; and Prince William County, Va. The Herndon location will connect its sister branch in Annapolis, Md., with SRS Acquisition's companies in North Carolina and Richmond, Va.

Registration for SPI 2012 is open

Registration for Solar Power International (SPI) 2012 is open at www.solarpowerinternational.com. SPI, which is presented by the Solar Energy Industries Association® (SEIA) and Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA), will be held Sept. 10-13 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., and will feature more than 1,200 international and U.S. exhibitors.

CPI releases guidance document

The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) of the American Chemistry Council has released "Guidance for Selecting a Contractor for the Installation of SPF in School Buildings."

The document is designed to help school administrators, design planners, facility managers and others select and work with professional spray polyurethane foam (SPF) contractors to help achieve a successful SPF installation. It discusses SPF's benefits and suggests steps to help schools achieve successful SPF installations. As of Jan. 1, StructureTec Corp., Kalamazoo, Mich., now is StructureTec Group. Because of its growth and expansion, StructureTec Group's board of directors has strategically developed and approved a plan to restructure the corporation to a holding company. StructureTec, Construction Services Group, Building Products Group, Maintenance Service Financial Corp. and ServiceTec now are deemed subsidiaries under StructureTec Group.
