Metal-Era forms partnerships

Metal-Era Inc., Waukesha, Wis., has partnered separately with NRCA member FiberTite Roofing Systems, Wooster, Ohio, and NRCA member GenFlex Roofing Systems, Maumee, Ohio. Metal-Era will produce roof edges for the companies' roof membranes. The roof edge products offered include FiberTite AT Fascia, FiberTite 200, GenFlex Fascia and GenFlex Coping.

Firestone donates to foundation

Firestone Building Products Co., Carmel, Ind., presented the Davis Memorial Foundation with a $5,000 check during the 30th Annual Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA) Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas June 6-8. The Davis Memorial Foundation is a scholarship program administered by WSRCA, and Firestone Building Products Co. has donated more than $30,000 to the foundation since 1996.

Elk expands distribution

Elk Premium Building Products Inc., Dallas, expanded distribution of Elk Domain® Winslow® shingles to the Midwest, North and Southwest in July. The expansion was spurred by the success in the western United States of Domain Winslow, which is a large-scale, laminated shingle.

Currier Roof Tile sells facility

Hanson Roof Tile Inc., Deerfield Beach, Fla., has purchased the roof tile manufacturing plant of NRCA member Currier Roof Tile LLC, Fort Myers, Fla., to expand its service in the southwest and central Florida markets. Many of Currier Roof Tile's plant personnel and administrative staff will join Hanson Roof Tile.

Manufacturer passes away

Ron Tamlyn, co-founder and chairman of R.H. Tamlyn & Sons LP, Stafford, Texas, passed away June 11. Tamlyn was 80.

Besides manufacturing flashings, Tamlyn's contributions to the roofing industry include his first product in 1971, which was an aluminum plywood clip he developed with the American Plywood Association, as well as donating to the NRCA Pentagon reroofing project.

Tamlyn is survived by his sons, Tom, Randy and Ron; three daughters-in-law; and nine grandchildren.

CRSMCA officers begin term

The officers for the Associate Group board of the Carolinas Roofing & Sheet Metal Contractors Association (CRSMCA) Inc. began their 2004-05 term at CRSMCA's 61st Annual Meeting June 24-26. Following are the new officers: president—John Kent Jr., president and owner of Roofing Tools & Equipment Co. Inc., Wilson, N.C.; first vice presiden—Ron Collier, territory manager for TAMKO Roofing Products Inc., Summerville, S.C.; second vice president—Scott Carpenter, sales representative for SFS intec Inc., Locust, N.C.; and secretary/treasurer—Mona Dayhoff, sales and technical support, Hydro-Stop Inc., North Charleston, S.C.

In addition, James M. Carver, president of Carver & Sons Roofing Inc., Gastonia, N.C., received the Gordon M. Waters Distinguished Service Award from CRSMCA at its 61st Annual Meeting. The award honors Carver's service to and leadership in CRSMCA and the roofing industry, including serving on CRSMCA's Contractor Executive Board as president in 1999, as well as serving on many committees and as district director.

ABC partners with roofing source

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) has partnered with The Blue Book of Building and Construction to provide ABC members with bidding resources.

The partnership offers BB-Bid, which is an online bid messaging and management system that allows contractors to send private bid invitation messages.

It also allows contractors to create a private online plan room so their invited guests can view, download and order plans, addendums and specifications.

  • Metal-Era Inc. has introduced two new white papers, the LEED™ Specification Guide and Green Building Specification Guide, on its Web site, www.metalera.com.

  • The Metal Construction Association (MCA) has released four technical bulletins focusing on metal construction, which can be downloaded at MCA's Web site, www.metalconstruction.org. The four bulletins are Ecological Benefits of Metal Roofing; Insulating Values: Factory Engineered Insulating Panels; Structural Loading: Factory Engineered Insulating Panels; and Recycled Content of Metal Roofing and Siding Panels.

Metal distribution center opens

A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply, Aurora, Ill., has added a distribution center in Jacksonville, Fla., that offers all types of metal decks. Other A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply distribution centers are in Chicago; Greensboro, N.C.; Indianapolis; Kansas City, Mo.; Knoxville, Tenn.; and St. Louis.

BuildSite creates partnership

Oakland, Calif.-based BuildSite has partnered with Bala Cynwyd, Pa.-based Primavera Systems Inc. to allow contractors to make submittals available electronically. In this new partnership, BuildSite will combine its electronic submittal program with Primavera Systems' Expedition, which provides document control and collaboration features.

ABC Supply Co. adds locations

Beloit, Wis.-based ABC Supply Co. has added seven new distribution centers to its network.

With the acquisition of PACO Building Supply, St. Louis, the company gains locations in St. Louis; St. Charles, Mo.; and Crystal City, Mo. The locations will be expanded to include ABC Supply Co.'s complete product lines. The company also acquired Aluminum Wholesale of Tri-Cities Inc., Johnsonville, Tenn., with locations in Abington, Tenn., Morristown, Tenn., and Johnson City, Tenn., as well as B & F Supply Co., Daytona Beach, Fla.
