Located on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in the Florida Keys, this 18,000-square-foot
home built by D'Asign Source, Marathon, Fla., was constructed in 2011. OnShore Roofing
Specialist Inc., Stuart, Fla., was selected as the roofing contractor to install
the steep- and low-slope roof systems.
For the steep-slope roof system, OnShore Roofing Specialist installed Polyglass'®
Polystick® MTS underlayment followed by Heyco Metals CopperPlus™ 1 1/2-inch mechanically
seamed copper-clad panels, which were custom roll-formed on-site. The panel installation
was site-specific to exceed the 150-mph Florida building code requirement.
The low-slope system received a layered Polyglass SBS and APP polymer-modified bitumen
tapered roof system. An Elastoflex® self-adhering base sheet was applied to the
deck followed by GlenFlex® 1/4-inch-thick polyisocyanurate tapered insulation and
1/2-inch-thick Georgia-Pacific DensDeck.® An additional two layers of Elastoflex
self-adhering base sheets were installed. Finally, an additional PolyFlex® self-adhering
granulated cap sheet in Sienna red completed the system.
Crews of 12 to 14 workers installed the roof systems in one month.
