FTS International,™ Cisco, Texas, Fort Worth, Texas, is a leading independent
provider of well stimulation services for the U.S. oil and gas industry. Throughout
the years, FTS International's chemical manufacturing and storage facility in Chickasha,
Okla., received several building additions. Although joined together, the additions
were in many respects several buildings adjacent to one another with just a small
gap between them, resulting in extensive drainage issues. The additions' existing
standing-seam metal roof panels also were rusting, causing additional leaks. Some
roof areas that had been coated also experienced leaks.
Tradition Roofing, Richmond, Texas, installed Mule-Hide Products® Co. Inc.'s
45-mil-thick white TPO membrane over the existing 3,500 squares of standing-seam
metal panels. Up to 3 inches of flute-fill insulation was used to level the existing
metal roof, and 1/2-inch-thick foil insulation was placed between the flute-fill insulation
and TPO membrane.
Because the buildings are in Oklahoma where strong storms are common, wind resistance
was a key consideration. Rather than fastening the TPO membrane to the metal panels,
the membrane was fastened to the metal purlins that support the roof panels. The
purlins were spaced 10 feet apart, requiring use of 12-foot-wide TPO rolls rather
than the typical 10-foot-wide rolls. Fasteners also were spaced 6 inches apart,
rather than 12 inches, to provide additional wind resistance.
