U.S. companies optimistic about economic recovery plan to hire more workers during the coming months, according to
The Wall Street Journal
.
A fourth-quarter survey of 84 companies by the National Association for Business Economics discovered 42 percent expect to hire during the next six months; this is an improvement compared with 29 percent during the first quarter of 2010.
Additionally, only 7 percent of companies plan to shed jobs during the next six months compared with 23 percent during the first quarter of 2010.
During the economic downturn, many businesses depended on existing workers to increase output; however, there are limits with such a strategy when it comes to boosting productivity.
Companies' plans to increase hiring could signal the job market is improving.
