The U.S. unemployment rate increased from 9.1 percent in May to 9.2 percent in June, according to The Washington Post. The increase has raised concerns about whether the economy will rebound during the second half of the year.

Employers added 18,000 jobs in Juneā€”the fewest in nine months; economists had predicted much stronger job creation. Private employers added 57,000 jobs.

In June, the leisure and hospitality sector added 34,000 jobs; health care sector added 17,400 jobs; professional and business services sector added 12,000 jobs; and manufacturing sector added 6,000 jobs. The government sector cut 39,000 jobs, and the construction sector was unchanged.

The number of unemployed people in the U.S. rose to 14.1 million in June.
