In January, jobless rates decreased in 45 U.S. states and Washington, D.C., indicating improvement in the job market, according to The Washington Post.

Additionally, unemployment rose only in New York and was unchanged in the remaining four states.

Nevada had the highest unemployment rate in January at 12.7 percent, followed by California and Rhode Island, each with 10.9 percent. North Dakota had the lowest unemployment rate at 3.2 percent, followed by Nebraska at 4 percent and South Dakota at 4.2 percent.
