In May, jobless rates increased in 18 U.S. states—the most in nine months, according to
www.usatoday.com
. Higher unemployment rates in more than a third of U.S. states indicate a weaker job market.
Unemployment fell in 14 states compared with 37 states in April; it was unchanged in 18 states. However, 27 states added jobs in May.
Nevada had the highest unemployment rate in April at 11.6 percent, followed by Rhode Island at 11 percent and California at 10.8 percent. North Dakota had the lowest unemployment rate at 3 percent, followed by Nebraska at 3.9 percent and South Dakota at 4.3 percent.
