In June, jobless rates increased in 27 U.S. states—the most in almost a year, according to
www.usatoday.com
.
Unemployment fell in 11 states and Washington, D.C., compared with 14 states in May; it was unchanged in 12 states. However, 29 states added jobs in June compared with 27 states in May.
Unemployment rates can rise when jobs are created because people who are out of the work force start looking for jobs. The number of people looking for jobs in the U.S. increased in June.
Nevada had the highest unemployment rate in April at 11.6 percent, followed by Rhode Island at 10.9 percent and California at 10.7 percent. North Dakota had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.9 percent, followed by Nebraska at 3.8 percent and South Dakota at 4.3 percent.
