The rapid growth of building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) solar systems, vegetative roof systems and sustainable roof system designs are making decisions more complex for roofing professionals. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Laboratory in La Jolla, Calif., includes BIPV and vegetative roof systems.

FM Approvals has confirmed it has no loss history with mechanically fastened single-ply membranes (8-,10- or 12-foot-wide panels) causing damage to decks or structures. These mechanically attached systems have been tested for wind-uplift performance at various accredited laboratories.
