NRLRC releases publications

The National Roofing Legal Resource Center (NRLRC) has released A Roofing Contractor's Guide to Fume Claims, a document addressing alleged health effects from fumes or vapors emitted from roofing products; potential legal liability associated with installing materials that emit fumes; and strategies to reduce potential liability for fume-related bodily injury claims.

NRLRC also has released A Roofing Contractor's Guide to Obtaining Payment, which addresses approaches to collecting money; terms in invoices, liens and claims on payment bonds; stopping work; not providing warranty services; and more.

In addition, NRLRC offers Contract Provisions, Volume II. Written by lawyers, the contract provisions feature plain-language explanations. NRLRC's second volume of contract provisions includes 20 key issues, such as arbitration, dispute resolution proceedings, FM Global compliance, waiver of subrogation requirements, nonroofing personnel on roofs, one-sided waiver clauses and lending fall-protection equipment.

NRLRC also has released A Roofing Contractor's Guide to Bidding, which addresses all the issues related to bidding, primarily on public projects (federal, state and local), including bid protests, bid responsiveness, bidder responsibility, withdrawing bids, bid bonds, irregularities that could be waived, state statutes, federal bid protest procedures, bid mistakes, promissory estoppels and state court remedies.

NRLRC members receive each publication as a membership benefit. For more information or to order the publications, visit shop.nrca.net or contact NRCA's Customer Service Department at (866) ASK-NRCA (275-6722) or info@nrca.net.

NRCA contributes $10,000 to Rebuilding Together®

NRCA recently contributed $10,000 to Rebuilding Together for its Fifty for Five event, which recognized the five-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and showcased and celebrated Rebuilding Together's commitment to Gulf Coast rebuilding and renewal. From Aug. 24 to Aug. 29, Rebuilding Together rehabilitated 50 homes in New Orleans' historic Gentilly neighborhood. The homes were chosen to receive extensive rehabilitation and energy-efficient appliance upgrades to ensure safe and healthy homes for low-income homeowners.

Celebrities, media professionals and Rebuilding Together partners joined more than 1,000 volunteers from Rebuilding Together affiliates throughout the U.S. to celebrate five years of recovery. Rebuilding Together New Orleans, the Rebuilding Together affiliate that co-hosted and offered major support during the event, has provided more than $40 million in construction investment in the New Orleans area.

Fifty For Five was the biggest community service celebration and housing rehabilitation project in Rebuilding Together's 21-year history as a national organization. Since the devastation in New Orleans caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Rebuilding Together has played an indelible role in helping rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf region. Rebuilding Together's pledge to "Rebuild 1,000" Gulf Coast homes is well on its way to completion; 700 homes have been rehabilitated so far.
