ICC-ES partners with Home Innovation Research Labs

ICC Evaluation Service LLC (ICC-ES), Brea, Calif., has entered into a cooperation agreement with Home Innovation Research Labs, Upper Marlboro, Md., to better serve manufacturers of building products and materials.

ICC-ES specializes in built environment product evaluation and certification, and Home Innovation Research Labs is a testing laboratory with a market research facility. The cooperation agreement creates a "one-stop" conformity assessment agency, shortening the testing, evaluation and certification process for new products. Before the collaborative process begins, a front-end test plan is agreed upon by all parties and then the testing and evaluation can take place. The new process also minimizes delays with obtaining testing data. The cooperation agreement covers the full range of building products and materials.

Manufacturers still can use any accredited testing lab in connection with evaluation reports and product listings. However, ICC-ES encourages manufacturers to take advantage of its cooperation agreement with Home Innovation Research Labs to expedite the product certification process.

Alliance sponsors third student competition

The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress has announced six schools will compete during its 2017 Construction Management Student Competition. This is the third year the Alliance has sponsored the competition, which culminates with student presentations during the 2017 International Roofing Expo® (IRE).

The following schools will participate in the competition: Auburn University—McWhorter School of Building Science, Auburn, Ala.; Colorado State University, Fort Collins; Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge; Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Ala.; University of Cincinnati; and University of Florida—M.E. Rinker Sr. School of Construction Management, Gainesville.

The Alliance's 2017 Construction Management Student Competition is a hallmark competition that promotes careers in roofing industry management. In addition to providing a significant learning opportunity, the competition fosters an environment that will bring out the best in each team; encourage dialogue among the students; and foster team spirit as students rise to meet the challenge. Each team consists of four college and university students testing their roofing, project management, estimating, safety, quality control and presentation skills.

The teams' written proposals are due Dec. 12. Competition judges will review the proposals and select up to five finalist teams to travel to Las Vegas to give their oral presentations Thursday, March 2, between 7:45 and 11:15 a.m. at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center during the IRE. The winning team will be announced later that day during NRCA's Industry Awards Ceremony and Cocktail Reception.
