Liquid-applied roof system is durable

American WeatherStar (AWS) now offers Ure-A-Sil, a liquid-applied urethane and silicone roof system.

Ure-A-Sil contains AWS Urethane 520 base layers coated with AWS Silicone 410 and reportedly is durable and waterproof, especially when used for low-slope applications. Its blend of single-component products is said to be durable enough to handle ponding water while offering adhesion and ultraviolet stability.

3M's Industrial Mineral Products Division has introduced DREW, a granule treatment technology that helps maintain granule color consistency.

DREW granule treatment technology reportedly helps reduce shingle staining caused by asphalt leaching when shingles are stored in bundles for long periods of time and in extreme heat.

Fastening system evenly distributes wind load

Carlisle SynTec Systems has introduced the RhinoBond Fastening System for its mechanically fastened Sure-Flex® PVC roof systems. RhinoBond, developed by OMG Inc., Agawam, Mass., is an alternative insulation and membrane attachment system that uses hot-melt fastening plates to secure the insulation and Sure-Flex PVC membrane to the roof deck without penetrating the roofing material.

RhinoBond Fastening System's benefits include a more evenly distributed wind load and less membrane flutter. The system reportedly allows large roof areas to be dried-in quickly and can save 3 inches of material with no inseam fastening when using 81-inch-wide or 10-foot-wide sheets.

Fall-protection harness is lightweight

Honeywell Safety Products has introduced its Miller AirCore™ Harness, a lightweight, full-body fall-protection harness designed with breathable, open-core padding technology that provides airflow while reducing heat and moisture entrapment to keep the wearer dry and cool. The padding also features a contour design that minimizes contact around the wearer's neck, lower back and inner thighs to reduce chafing and irritation.

The harness features DuraFlex® stretchable webbing, which stretches with each movement the wearer makes, providing flexibility and comfort. It can hold up to 400 pounds.

Honeywell Safety Products also has made available its Miller Fall Clearance Calculator to help workers know their fall clearance whether they use a shock-absorbing lanyard or self-retracting lifeline. Workers can access their fall clearance and swing fall calculations from a desktop, smart phone or tablet. The calculator is designed for use with Miller fall-protection products but also can be used with any brand of fall-protection equipment.

Additionally, Honeywell Safety Products has introduced Miller MightyLite™ Leading Edge (LE) Self-Retracting Lifeline (SRL), designed to protect a worker in the event of a fall over an edge. MightyLite LE SRL features a shock absorber integrated into the lifeline, which lowers fall-arrest forces. It is designed for use with a leading edge or traditional over-head anchorage and features a dual-swivel design said to minimize lifeline twisting during use.

MightyLite LE SRL is made of stainless steel and aluminum and reportedly is corrosion-resistant. The SRL is available in 20-, 30-, 50- and 65-foot wire rope lengths. The 50- and 65-foot lengths feature a carrying handle for easy transport. It can hold a worker weighing up to 310 pounds in leading edge applications and up to 400 pounds when mounted overhead.

Impact driver provides durability

PORTER-CABLE has introduced its PCE201, a 1/4-inch Hex 4.3-amp impact driver for deck builders, steel roof system installers and other tradesmen who complete numerous fastening applications in challenging workplaces.

PCE201 features a 4.3-amp motor and a metal gear housing that help dissipate heat buildup caused by the impacting mechanism, allowing for durability during heavy-duty applications. Solar rooftop attachment is wind-resistant

Anchor Products LLC has introduced its U-Anchor 2000™ rooftop attachment product for ballast-free, nonpenetrating roof membrane attachment of solar module racking systems. It is a lightweight equipment attachment system consisting of a weatherized steel plate with a 3/8- by 3/4-inch-tall stainless-steel stud and is designed to be installed without fasteners. It also is said to be a wind-resistant enhancement for solar panel racking installations.

U-Anchor 2000 does not require roof membrane penetrations and reportedly eliminates the need for ballasting of photovoltaic panel racking systems. It can be welded to any thermoplastic surface with a hot-air welder at a rate of 12 attachments per man-hour.

Suspension system absorbs road impact

Lifelines reduce falls from tripping

Capital Safety has introduced Nano-Lok Tie-Back Self Retracting Lifeline (SRL) and Nano-Lok Arc Flash SRL.

Nano-Lok Tie-Back SRL reportedly is light and compact. It features a quick-connect anchorage connector that attaches directly to the back of most harnesses and does not require a separate carabiner. The SRL includes a tie-back leg with 36 inches of webbing and is available with single- and twin-leg connection options. The 6-foot-long retractable lifeline reportedly reduces dragging, snagging and falls from tripping.

Nano-Lok Arc Flash SRL weighs 1.9 pounds and can support a user weighing up to 420 pounds. The 6-foot-long Kevlar® SRL with NanoSphere® coating is arc flash-rated and is said to reduce dragging, snagging and falls caused by tripping. The SRL features an integrated shock absorber that provides visual indication after damage during a fall.

Coating helps with ponding water

Sealoflex Inc. has made available Enviroflex, a moisture-cured, 100 percent solids, polymer-based coating that contains no volatile organic compounds and can be applied to damp surfaces.

Once applied, Enviroflex creates a fully adhered 45-mil monolithic membrane that can be used over single-plies, wood, concrete and trafficable walkways. It is said to be ideal for low-sloped roof systems where ponding water is an issue. Enviroflex reportedly cures quickly and is rain-resistant.

Post absorbs force from falls

US Fall Protection has introduced the Constant Force Post, which features an energy-absorbing coil that, in the event of a fall, deploys in a controlled manner to absorb the force generated while leaving the roof panel intact. Energy design guide released

The Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing and the Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association have released Roof and Wall Thermal Design Guide: Applying the Prescriptive Insulation Standards of the 2012 I-Codes.

The guide provides information regarding the prescriptive thermal value tables in the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code and references to the tables in the 2012 International Green Construction Code. It provides the information in simple, straightforward roof and wall R-value tables for the most common forms of commercial opaque roof and wall construction.
