Leading with passion

A lasting impression
The number and severity of hailstorms in the U.S. have increased significantly during the past decade, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. As a result, roofing manufacturer GAF, Parsippany, N.J., conducted ice ball tests to determine the impact resistance of TPO membranes. The tests reveal hail damage may extend below the membrane, indicating an entire roof system must be carefully selected for maximum hail resistance.

When Avita Health System decided to transform a three-story building in Mansfield, Ohio, into a new medical facility, it turned to Alumni Roofing Co., Lexington, Ohio, to develop a plan for the building's iconic tower. After Avita Health System selected a design, Alumni Roofing installed a TPO roof system on the tower that features the Avita logo on four of the tower’s eight sides.

Latino workers suffer on-the-job fatalities more frequently than other ethnic groups. Lack of communication, machismo, disregard for rules and incongruence often affect Latinos, leading to falls and electrocutions that injure and kill workers. Roofing contractors must find ways to overcome these causes to better protect their workers.
