Duro-Last® presents multiple awards

Duro-Last Inc., Saginaw, Mich., honored roofing contractors for outstanding dedication and workmanship at the annual Awards Banquet held during its National Sales Seminar Jan. 20-22 in Orlando, Fla.

The 2018 Contractor of the Year award was given to Parsons Commercial Roofing, Waco, Texas, for the company's exceptional work on complex projects, attention to detail, customer service and outstanding sales during 2018. Parsons Commercial Roofing also earned Duro-Last Platinum contractor distinction.

Duro-Last Project Awards honor roofing contractors who completed outstanding projects. The following companies received Duro-Last Project Awards: Elliott Roofing, Oklahoma City, won Project of the Year for Osage Casino & Hotel, Tulsa, Okla.; Freeman Sheet Metal, Tuscaloosa, Ala., won the Edge-to-Edge & Deck-to-Sky™ Award for Holt High School, Tuscaloosa; NRCA member Independent Roofing Systems Inc., Jackson, Miss., won the Metal Roofing Award for National Warmwater Aquaculture Center at Mississippi State University Delta Research and Extension Center, Stoneville; Versatile Roofing, Grand Rapids, Mich., won the Sustainability Award for Buchanan Elementary School, Grand Rapids; and Crossmark Roofing Solutions, Charlotte, N.C., won the Specialty Membrane Award for Freedom High School, Morgantown, N.C.

Owens Corning introduces Owens Corning University

Owens Corning, Toledo, Ohio, has made available Owens Corning University for all Owens Corning Roofing Contractor Network members.

Members can access Owens Corning University on the OCConnectTM Resource Center to learn about Owens Corning's live and online educational opportunities. The university's comprehensive platform also gives members access to 24/7 "on demand" education and resources designed to help roofing contractors build their businesses. A leaderboard shows participants how they rank compared with their competition, and participants receive award badges for completed educational tasks.

Carlisle Companies rebrands its spray foam unit

Carlisle Companies Inc., Charlotte, N.C., has rebranded Accella Performance Materials' spray foam business unit as Carlisle Spray Foam Insulation.

Carlisle Companies acquired Accella Performance Materials in November 2017. As part of the acquisition, Carlisle Companies took over Accella Performance Materials' Accella Polyurethane Systems™ portfolio of three spray foam brands. The portfolio now is Carlisle Spray Foam Insulation, and products previously designed and marketed by Accella Performance Materials (BaySeal,® Foamsulate™ and QuadFoam®) will be consolidated under Carlisle Spray Foam Insulation's new SealTite family of products. The changes are intended to help reduce market confusion and simplify product identification and selection.

"This new branding platform will help differentiate our company and our products and will improve the customer experience," says Mike McAuley, Carlisle Construction Materials' executive vice president of diversified products and Accella Performance Materials' general manager. "The journey will take some time, but will ultimately provide needed leadership for the industry."

Texas association announces board of directors

The North Texas Roofing Contractors Association has announced its 2019 board of directors.

Paul Ramon, president of Ramon Roofing Inc., Fort Worth, Texas, is president; Kyle Davis, owner of Super Roofman, Haslet, Texas, is president-elect; Charles Cross Jr., commercial sales for NRCA member CIM Roofing, Dallas, is past president; and Kirk Scott, owner of NRCA member Scott Exteriors, Dallas, is treasurer.

Additionally, the North Texas Roofing Contractors Association presented its Golden Hammer awards during an awards banquet Feb. 23 in Midlothian, Texas.

The group's annual Golden Hammer Awards recognize roofing contractors who have completed outstanding roofing projects during the year. NRCA member KPost Company, Dallas; NRCA member Omnipresence Construction and Roofing, Addison, Texas; and Tarrant Roofing, Bedford, Texas, received Golden Hammer Awards for community service projects. NRCA member Empire Roofing, Fort Worth; KPost Company; and NRCA member Supreme Roofing, Dallas, received Golden Hammer Awards for commercial roofing projects. JMAC Construction, Carrollton, Texas; Ramon Roofing; and NRCA member Tice Enterprises Ltd., Dallas, received Golden Hammer Awards for residential roofing projects. Classic Superoof LLC, Hurst, Texas; Omnipresence Construction and Roofing; and NRCA member Texas Roof Management Inc., Richardson, received Golden Hammer Awards for metal/tile roofing projects. NRCA member Arrington Roofing, Dallas, and Tarrant Roofing received Golden Hammer Awards for "green" roofing projects.

ARMA announces award winners

The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association has announced the winners of its 2019 Excellence in Asphalt Roofing Awards. This is the first year the modernized awards program has been in place.

Formerly known as the Quality Asphalt Roofing Case Study, the Excellence in Asphalt Roofing Awards recognize projects completed in the U.S. and Canada that exemplify asphalt roofing's versatility and ability to provide solutions for complex architectural challenges.

The following received 2019 Excellence in Asphalt Roofing Awards:

  • Gold: M & J Construction, Moorhead, Minn., for Southgate Veterinary Hospital, Fargo, N.D.
  • Silver: NRCA member Wedge Roofing, Petaluma, Calif., for Sonoma Dome, Sonoma County, Calif.

Tile Roofing Institute changes name

The Tile Roofing Institute, Seattle, has changed its name to the Tile Roofing Industry Alliance to better reflect the organization's shared knowledge, comradery and advocacy.

For more than 30 years, the Tile Roofing Industry Alliance has been the primary voice for the concrete and clay tile roofing industry. The organization serves as a resource and advocate, working closely with members, builders, contractors and legislators to enact positive changes. The name change comes as the organization expands its activities within the tile roofing industry in the U.S. and Canada.

"Through our research we have discovered a need to bring further awareness to tile roofing and our organization," says Rick Olson, president of the Tile Roofing Industry Alliance. "Our new name and logo underscore our objectives of taking a more assertive role within the industry to ensure building codes and installation techniques continue to advance and to work collectively in alliance with our industry partners to promote the benefits of tile roofing in an ever-evolving roofing market."

SPRI honors volunteers

SPRI honored three members during its 37th Annual Conference and Business Meeting in Tucson, Ariz.

Mike Darsch, technical services manager for NRCA member Sika® Sarnafil, Canton, Mass., was honored for demonstrating patience and attention to detail while leading a task force responsible for updating ANSI/SPRI Standard VR-1, "Procedure for Investigating Resistance to Root Penetration on Vegetative Roofs." David R. Hawn, president of NRCA member Dedicated Roof and Hydro-Solutions LLC, Centreville, Va., was recognized for his work on behalf of SPRI in starting a task force for the "Wetting Curves: Acceptable Roof Material Performance at Elevated Moisture Content" project. Al Janni, product testing and code approval specialist for NRCA member Duro-Last® Inc., Saginaw, Mich., was given SPRI's President Award for more than 15 years of exemplary volunteer service.

SPFA announces award winners

The Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance has announced the recipients of its 2018 Spray Foam National Industry Excellence Awards presented Feb. 6 in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The awards are given to companies that have completed projects demonstrating innovative uses of spray foam in one of six categories: commercial wall foam, residential wall foam, roof foam greater than 40,000 square feet, roof foam less than 40,000 square feet, specialty applications and elastomeric roof coatings.

RCI Inc. adopts new name

RCI has changed its name to the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants. The change took effect April 1.

The organization has grown from a small group of roof consultants to representing 3,600 members made up of building enclosure consultants and other industry stakeholders specializing in roofing, waterproofing and exterior wall specification and design. The new name better aligns the organization's brand with its purpose and strategy.

The Roofing Alliance welcomes new member

The Roofing Alliance has announced Kreiling Roofing Co. Inc., Peoria, Ill., a family-owned and operated commercial and residential roofing and sheet metal restoration company, joined at the Governor level. The Roofing Alliance now has 167 members representing the contracting, manufacturing, distributing and service provider communities.

Industry online

EagleView has updated the EagleView App to include an interactive 3D visualizer that enables a user to show a customer a new perspective of his or her property. Proposed improvements can be demonstrated by selecting roofing and siding materials. The app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Owens Corning Roofing has made available the ProSell® app designed to streamline and expedite sales of residential roof systems. The app helps users manage sales pitches, order processing and other essential elements of the sales process. ProSell is available to all Owens Corning Roofing Contractor Network members via the Apple App Store.
