D.C. Taylor wins award

D.C. Taylor Co., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, received a safety award from the Iowa-Illinois Safety Council for promoting active safety programs and reducing OSHA-recordable injuries among its employees. D.C. Taylor is one of 190 businesses, industries and government agencies from Iowa and Illinois to earn this award.

Fick Brothers is recognized

Fick Brothers Roofing & Exterior Remodeling Co., Baltimore, has received the Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland 2006 Torch Award for Business Ethics. This award promotes the importance of ethical business practices and recognizes the willingness and effort made by outstanding businesses. Up to four companies are eligible to win the Torch Award each year.

Firestone donates to RCI Foundation

Firestone Building Products Co., Indianapolis, donated $10,000 to the Roof Consultants Institute (RCI) Foundation, which supports education and research initiatives. Firestone Building Products presented its donation during RCI's 21st International Convention and Trade Show in Phoenix March 25.

Since 2002, Firestone Building Products has donated $50,000 to the RCI Foundation to help expand research and educational programs within the roofing industry.

"Firestone Building Products is committed to quality educational opportunities that benefit industry professionals, and we value the strong, goal-oriented relationship we share with the RCI Foundation," says Michael Gorey, president of Firestone Building Products.

GAF and Dataforma form alliance

GAF Materials Corp., Wayne, N.J., has formed an exclusive alliance with Dataforma Inc., York, Pa. As a result, contractors who meet GAF Master contractor status—MasterElite,™ MasterSelect™ or Master—and subscribe to Dataforma's services during 2006 will receive 50 percent off first-year costs.

Dataforma is a Web-based service that transforms data into usable information by linking service work, project and customer data.

"Our alliance with Dataforma is another example of our commitment to help our contractor partners build their businesses and avoid hassles," says David A. Duro-Last® donates roof system

Duro-Last Roofing Inc., Saginaw, Mich., was featured in the television show "Extreme Makeover Home Edition: After the Storm" for donating a roof system to the Sabine Pass Fire House #4, Sabine Pass, Texas, which was destroyed during Hurricane Rita. Duro-Last Roofing donated about 5,400 square feet of single-ply membrane.

"Duro-Last was honored to be a part of this makeover," says Tom Hollingsworth, president of Duro-Last Roofing. "We had employees at our Mississippi plant and colleagues in Texas and other Gulf states that also were affected by hurricanes in 2005, so anything we could do to help out, we did."

RHEINZINK® America announces partnership

NRCA member RHEINZINK America Inc., Cambridge, Mass., has announced its new partnership with Metal-Era Inc., Waukesha, Wis. RHEINZINK America and Metal-Era jointly will promote and sell Metal-Era's Anchor-Tite Fascia and Perma-Tite Coping using RHEINZINK material, which is comprised of high-grade fine zinc, titanium and copper.

TRI trains roof tile installers

The Tile Roofing Institute (TRI), Chicago, has announced the training and certification of the first group of roof tile installers to complete its TRI Installer Certification Program in Scottsdale, Ariz. Sixty contractors attended the program.

The TRI Installer Certification Program is designed for roofing contractors, foremen, estimators, owners, and manufacturer sales and marketing professionals and addresses broad-based tile roofing practices and techniques that affect estimating, planning and execution of commercial and residential projects. TRI Installer Certification Program sessions will be held during the year in cities across the western U.S.
