Organizations sign standard agreement

The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), National Institute of Building Sciences and The American Institute of Architects have signed an agreement to continue publishing and distributing the U.S. National CAD Standard (NCS). NCS organizes and classifies computer-aided drafting (CAD) drawings and electronic building design data, which eases communication among building owners, designers, builders and facility managers. The agreement is expected to lead to Version 3.0 of NCS in 2004.

"Through this agreement, NCS will continue to contribute to the industry [by] providing a common language for CAD data," says Karl Borgstrom, CSI's executive director. "Consistency in the use and exchange of design and construction information saves time and reduces the potential for errors and omissions, which often are causes of cost overruns, delays and disputes."
