Duro-Last® celebrates 40th anniversary


Duro-Last Inc.'s headquarters

Duro-Last Inc., Saginaw, Mich., celebrated its 40th anniversary May 16 at its company headquarters. More than 100 guests attended the celebration, including local contractors, vendor partners, and community members and organizations. Guests had the opportunity to tour Duro-Last's manufacturing facilities and view product demonstrations and interactive timelines.

"John R. Burt established a culture of innovation and excellence when he manufactured the first Duro-Last roof in 1978," says Duro-Last CEO Tom Saeli. "What started as a small manufacturer of PVC pool liners has grown into a leader in the commercial roofing industry. All of us at Duro-Last are proud of the accomplishments we have achieved with our network of dedicated contractor partners across the country, and we are excited to share this important milestone with them."

Duro-Last is honoring the theme of "40 Years at the Top" all year with special activities for employees and contractors.

Owens Corning receives award

Owens Corning, Toledo, Ohio, has received a 2018 Women's Choice Award,® which recognizes the brand behind America's Most Recommended™ Roofing Products. Award recipients are selected based on results from a national survey of thousands of U.S. women who were asked to select brands they would highly recommend to friends and family.

Surveyed women were impressed with Owens Corning's Shingle Color of the Year initiative, which highlights the roof as a design element and is informed by women's influence in coordinating a home's exterior color schemes. Owens Corning offers color tools to help consumers consider the aesthetic aspect of a new roof, including online style boards and visualization resources.

Atlas® Roofing products join online library

Atlas Roofing, Atlanta, has announced its shingle product lines now are presented as options in online home design platform HOVER's product library.

HOVER enables homeowners, builders, contractors and remodelers to convert smartphone photos of houses into customizable 3-D models. HOVER users now can virtually place Atlas Roofing shingle products on their 3-D house models. HOVER also provides exterior measurements for roofs, siding, windows and trim, enabling users to create detailed quotes and material lists. Upon completion of their designs, users can share links of their 3-D models with contractors or homeowners.

OMG® Roofing Products relocates

OMG Roofing Products, Agawam, Mass., has relocated to a larger facility in Charlotte, N.C.

With 61,000 square feet of office, warehouse and light assembly space, the new facility is two-thirds larger than OMG Roofing Products' previous Charlotte facility. The facility also has 15 shipping and receiving docks for improved traffic efficiency. Products manufactured at the facility will serve customers in the Southeast.

West Roofing Systems' CEO receives award


Moore

West Roofing Systems Inc., La Grange, Ohio, has announced the company's president and CEO, Jack L. Moore Jr., received a 2018 Corporate College Smart 50 Award from Smart Business magazine.

Smart 50 awards are presented to Northeast Ohio's top executives in recognition of their ability to effectively build and lead innovative "smart" organizations. Moore became West Roofing Systems' president and CEO in 2014. He was recognized for enabling the company to have a positive effect on the business world by using the latest technology, hiring the right people and performing in a sustainable manner. West Roofing Systems has partnerships with several local businesses, including Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, Parma City School District and Playhouse Square.

Horch Roofing recycles waste


Recycled waste

Horch Roofing, Warren, Maine, announced it has recycled 10 million pounds of roofing materials since the launch of its Reroof and Recycle program in April 2010.

The program recycles 100 percent of Horch Roofing's waste by turning the materials into an aggregate used in the company's driveways and parking lots.

A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply opens branch

A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply, Aurora, Ill., opened a new branch in Milan, Tenn., June 18. The Milan location will serve customers in Arkansas, Mississippi and western Tennessee.

A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply now has 15 distribution centers. Each location fulfills the metal roof deck, form deck and composite floor deck needs of local contractors.

ABC Supply presents Ken Hendricks award

ABC Supply Co. Inc., Beloit, Wis., presented the Ken Hendricks award to Joe Cox, managing partner of ABC Supply's Camden, N.J., branch, and Tony Schalliol, managing partner of ABC Supply's Durham, N.C., branch during its Founders' Celebration picnic June 21. The award is presented annually to associates who exemplify commitment to ABC Supply's seven core values in honor of the company's co-founder. Cox has been in the industry for 37 years and was recognized for his thoughtful approach to building relationships with customers and vendors. Schalliol has worked for ABC Supply for 15 years and was recognized for his ability to help new associates launch successful careers at the company.

ABC Supply also has acquired the assets of G & F Roof Supply Inc., Anaheim, Calif., a distributor of roofing products, which has locations in Anaheim; Gardena, Calif.; and Whittier, Calif. The acquisition will increase ABC Supply's footprint in the largest metropolitan market on the West Coast and allow the company to build stronger relationships with local contractors.

In addition, ABC Supply has opened five new branches in Bronx County, N.Y.; Mankato, Minn.; Port Orchard, Wash.; San Diego; and Seattle. The Bronx County branch is ABC Supply's 21st location in New York; the Mankato branch is the company's 11th location in Minnesota; and the San Diego branch is the company's fourth location in the area. The Port Orchard and Seattle branches are the company's fifth and sixth locations in western Washington. Each new location will give local contractors easier access to the roofing, siding, windows and other exterior products they require.

RT3 elects board of directors

Roofing Technology Think Tank (RT3), Dallas, elected six people to its board of directors during a virtual meeting May 9.

Heidi J. Ellsworth, owner of HJE Consulting Group, Camp Sherman, Ore., and Karen Inman, chief operating officer for Antis Roofing & Waterproofing Inc., Irvine, Calif., will serve three-year terms on the board. Steve Little, president of K-Post Roofing and Waterproofing, Dallas, and Ken Kelly, president of Kelly Roofing, Bonita Springs, Fla., will serve two-year terms, and Trent Cotney, CEO of Cotney Construction Law LLP, Tampa, Fla., and Tom Whitaker, CEO of Harness Software, Toronto, will serve one-year terms. The board will support the RT3 mission statement and work to accomplish its objectives to support and advance the adoption of technology within the roofing industry.

Alliance announces new board of trustees

The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress has announced the members of its 2018-19 board of trustees.

Rod Petrick, president of Ridgeworth Roofing Co. Inc., Frankfort, Ill., will serve as president; Josh Kelly, vice president of product development and innovation for OMG® Roofing Products, Agawam, Mass., will serve as vice president; and Dane Bradford, president of Bradford Roof Management, Billings, Mont., will serve as secretary-treasurer. Kelly Braddy Van Winkle, vice president of contracts for King of Texas Roofing Co. LP, Grand Prairie, will serve as NRCA vice chairman liaison.

SPFA program added to spec guide

The Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance (SPFA) has announced its Professional Certification Program (PCP) has been added to the Department of Defense Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS), a guide for use when specifying construction for the military. SPFA's certification program now is cited for use under the Division 07 Thermal and Moisture Protection, Spray Foam Air Barriers, Quality Assurance portion of the UFGS.

SPFA's PCP is compliant with ISO-17024, the international standard for certification and credentialing of professional personnel.

MRA to partner with home improvement show

The Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA), Portland, Ore., has announced it will partner with national home improvement show "Today's Homeowner" and host Danny Lipford to help promote the benefits of metal roofing this season.

The partnership is designed to highlight the performance, efficiency and longevity of metal roofs, especially in areas that experience harsh conditions such as hurricane-prone and wildfire-prone regions. Although the popularity of metal roofing has boomed recently, MRA's goal for the campaign is to increase awareness and education among homeowners to help the market continue to grow. Along with the performance benefits, the "Today's Homeowner" campaign will emphasize the different styles, colors and design options now available with metal roofs.

MRA also is hosting a monthly "Metal Roofing Raves" giveaway in partnership with "Today's Homeowner" until October. Additional information about the home improvement show and the giveaway is available at www.metalroofing.com.

The National Roofing Legal Resource Center (NRLRC) has announced its 2018-19 board of directors.

John Embow, president of Grove Roofing Services Inc., Buffalo, N.Y., is president; Matthew Leonard, vice president of Architectural Sheet Metal Inc., Orlando, Fla., is vice president; and Kelly Braddy Van Winkle, vice president of contracts for King of Texas Roofing Co. LP, Grand Prairie, is immediate former president.

The Metal Construction Association has updated its Specification Guides for Metal Composite Material (MCM) for 4-mil and 6-/8-mil MCM systems. Each guide defines performance criteria for MCM panels, installation systems and system fabricators based on the most recent International Building Codes and performance standards developed by ASTM and the American Architectural Manufacturers Association. The guides can be downloaded at www.metalconstruction.org.
