Marco Industries launches ventilation division

Marco Industries, Tulsa, Okla., has launched its Python™ Steep Slope Ventilation Division.

The company is leveraging its engineering, design and manufacturing capabilities to help resolve costly issues plaguing the ventilation of shingle roof systems. The division’s new products include ridge vents and static vents designed to address heat buildup and excess moisture in attics caused by inadequate roof ventilation.

TAMKO® Building Products expands shingle distribution

TAMKO Building Products LLC, Joplin, Mo., has expanded the color options and distribution area for its Heritage Proline Titan XT™ line of shingles.

The performance-based shingles originally were launched in the Midwest and Northeast in March 2021. Titan XT shingles now are available in 10 colors and sold at all TAMKO Building Products sales districts in the continental U.S.

GAF to acquire FT Synthetics

GAF, Parsippany, N.J., has signed a definitive agreement to acquire FT Synthetics, Langley, British Columbia, a manufacturer of synthetic underlayments for the steep-slope roofing industry.

FT Synthetics will continue to operate as an independent business within the GAF portfolio, and FT Synthetics CEO Gary Sandhar will retain a senior leadership position within GAF.

The transaction is expected to close later this year.

Atlas® Roofing releases “Roof It Right” series

Atlas Roofing Corp., Atlanta, has released season two of its “Roof It Right” web series.

Season one of “Roof It Right,” hosted by Mike Holmes Jr. and Sherry Holmes, the son and daughter of professional contractor and TV host Mike Holmes, aired in 2019 and documented the replacement of two roof systems using Atlas Roofing shingles featuring Scotchgard™ Protector by 3M. The new season offers fresh perspectives, including new commentary from Mike Holmes.

Season two of “Roof It Right” has five episodes, which started airing every Thursday beginning Sept. 9 at youtube.com/c/mikeholmesmakesitright.

Longtime industry member passes away

Glenn

William (Bill) Charles Glenn, former owner of Olsson Roofing Co., Aurora, Ill., passed away Aug. 20. He was 82.

After graduating from Dartmouth College and Tuck School of Business, Glenn returned to his hometown to work for the family business, Olsson Roofing. After purchasing the company from his parents, Glenn successfully grew it with his wife and management team for more than 40 years. Under his leadership until 2004, Olsson Roofing became one of the largest commercial roofing and sheet-metal companies in the Chicago area. A longtime member of the Chicago Roofing Contractors Association, Glenn served on the board of directors for nine years; on the CRCA Local 11 Labor Committee for 20 years; and as a Health, Welfare and Pension Trustee for 19 years. He was awarded CRCA’s top honor, the Clyde Scott Award, in 2003.

Glenn is survived by Mardi, his wife of 53 years; children, Susan Glenn (Roberto Rivera Martinez), Bill (Kristen) Glenn and Sara Glenn (Brian Reinhardt); grandchildren, Logan and Duncan Smith, Will and Katie Glenn, and Griffin and Quinn Reinhardt; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy and Frosty Smith; three nieces and their families; several cousins; and a loving grand-dog, Izzy, who would often be at Glenn’s side. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Opal.

Triangle Fastener acquires GLR Fasteners

Triangle Fastener Corp., Pittsburgh, has acquired GLR Fasteners Inc., a San Jose, Calif.-based distributor of fasteners used in roofing and glazing applications. GLR Fasteners has served the San Francisco Bay area since 1977.

After the Aug. 1 acquisition, GLR Fasteners immediately transitioned to a Triangle Fastener branch. The acquisition enables Triangle Fastener to expand its coverage in the Bay Area and offer customers local access to Triangle Fastener products and services.

SRS Distribution acquires Weatherpanel

SRS Distribution Inc., McKinney, Texas, has acquired Weatherpanel Inc., Buffalo, N.Y., a leading distributor of residential and commercial roofing, siding, windows, doors and other related products.

“We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with the Weatherpanel team,” says Dan Tinker, president and CEO of SRS Distribution. “The company is one of the oldest and most respected independent distributors in New York and will be a perfect complement to our B&L Wholesale Supply branches in the region.”

The transaction is SRS Distribution’s 100th acquisition since its founding in 2008.

MCA releases new white paper

The Metal Construction Association has released “Insulated Metal Panel IBC Specifications for Roofs and Walls,” the first of several white papers discussing industry-standard guide specifications. The specifications, prepared by MCA’s Insulated Metal Panel Alliance, are intended to help designers meet project specifications in the International Building Code, 2018 Edition.

Insulated metal panels are lightweight composite exterior wall and roof panels with metal skins and an insulating foam core. The panels reportedly have excellent insulating properties and spanning capabilities.

The white paper has two downloadable specifications, one for roofs and one for walls. Each includes design and performance requirements, as well as sections regarding approved manufacturers and the delivery, storage and handling of materials. The white paper is available at metalconstruction.org/index.php/online-education.

The Roofing Alliance has announced the winners of its Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarships for the 2021-22 academic year.

The Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarship Program, which permanently replaced the Roofing Alliance’s previous scholarship program in 2008, provides recipients with $5,000 per year based on eligibility for up to four years of enrollment at an accredited college, university or vocational-technical school. NRCA contractor or supplier member companies’ full-time employees or their immediate family members are eligible for the merit-based scholarships.

This year’s new scholarship recipients are Ben Baxter, son of Paul S. Baxter, national operations director for Tecta America, Granbury, Texas; Zackary Cekalla, son of Mark Cekalla, market manager for Beacon Roofing Products, St. Cloud, Minn.; Travis Cox, son of Tammy McCullough, accountant for Centimark Corp., Canonsburg, Pa.; Max Metzger, son of Donald Metzger, sales representative for Tremco® Inc., Roseville, Calif.; Finnegan O’Connor, son of Patrick O’Connor, regional sales manager for OMG® Inc., Agawam, Mass.; Cole Snavely, son of Susan Snavely, payroll clerk for GSM Roofing, Ephrata, Pa.; and Michael Waldron, son of David Waldron, technical sales support for SOPREMA® Inc., Newark, N.J.

In addition, the Roofing Alliance renewed six Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarships. The recipients include Jacob James, attending Dakota County Technical College, Rosemount, Minn.; Elaina Krumholz, attending the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, Minneapolis; Morgan Patterson, attending DePaul University, Chicago; John Paynter, attending East Carolina University, Greenville, S.C.; Calvin Raymore, attending the University of Delaware, Newark; and Cameron Tickerhoff, attending Penn State University, University Park, Pa.

The Roofing Alliance awarded $30,000 for scholarship renewals and $35,000 for new scholarships for a total of $65,000 for the 2021-22 academic year. To date, 139 students have received $960,000 in scholarship funds.
