During 2017, Hurricanes Irma and Maria caused catastrophic damage to the U.S. Virgin Islands, including Elysian Beach Resort on St. Thomas. The existing composite tile roofing material was replaced with .032-inch-thick aluminum CastleTop® interlocking shingles in ascot white.

Using 120-foot-tall manlifts to reach the roof areas, Rooftops Silicone Distributors Inc., St. Croix, installed 62,400 square feet of the diamond-shaped shingles. The retrofit project was named 2020 Project of the Year by ATAS International Inc., Allentown, Pa., in the residential roofs category.
