What is your position within your company?
I am president of ATAS International Inc., Allentown, Pa.

What is the most unusual roofing project of which you have been a part?
I helped install standing-seam panels with a flying gable end on a mess hall at the Boy Scouts of America’s Camp Trexler in Kunkletown, Pa.

People would be surprised to know ...
I had my own plane, a Piper Saratoga

Why did you become involved in the roofing industry?
What can I say? My parents made me. I followed in my father’s footsteps.

What was your first roofing experience?
I had to trim the cross on top of the Morton Baptist Church steeple in Morton, Pa.

What is your roofing industry involvement?
I currently serve on NRCA’s board of directors, and I am involved with several NRCA committees, including Industry Executives, Industry Image and Outreach, and Global Strategy. I also am president of the Metal Roofing Alliance.

What was your first job?
When I was 9 years old, I had a job bending trim in the basement of our family home.

What quality do you most admire in a person?
I admire honesty. Do what you say, and say what you do.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
I would travel to Antarctica. It is the only continent I have not yet visited.

What do you consider a waste of time?
Doing something a second time when it should have been done correctly the first time

What’s the most exciting/adventurous thing you’ve done?
Piloting my own plane was exciting.

What is your favorite stress reliever?
Walking with my buddies who are all retired while we solve the world’s problems

Big city or small town?
I like to visit big cities, but I prefer to live in small towns.

What song are you listening to over and over?
There isn’t one particular song. I mostly listen to jazz music.

What is your favorite food?
Clams in a white wine sauce over linguine is a meal at the top of my list.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
As a youngster, I wanted to be a teacher. In today’s environment, I am glad that did not happen.

The people I’ve met over the years and those I will meet in the future

What’s your favorite roofing material to work with? Why?
Aluminum because it’s easy to work with. Besides, a properly installed aluminum roof system will last for decades.

What do you consider your most rewarding experience?
Becoming a Scout Master. My wife and I started a troop at a new school our younger son attended. It was rewarding to guide the young boys to become the adults they are today.

What is the most high-tech item in your house?
My Amazon Alexa device. I know how to get it to play jazz, but that is about it. My grandchildren are trying to teach me to be more tech-savvy.

If you could meet any historical figure, whom would you meet? Why?
I would meet Leonardo DaVinci. The things he invented and the art he created are simply amazing. I’d like to spend a year following him around to observe his thought process.
