Paige McCrory Harvill

What is your position within your company?
I am corporate projects manager for Nations Roof LLC, Mobile, Ala.

What is the most unusual project of which you have been a part?
Our mid-Atlantic office completed an interesting project at Dominion Energy Cove Point in Lusby, Md. Our crew had to transport their tools on a bike through a tunnel to and from the building, which was located on an island, and were required to be accompanied by an escort at all times. The mandatory escorts were not allowed to let our workers out of their sight because we were in a secure location.

Why did you become involved in the roofing industry?
My father, Don McCrory, owned Kiker Corp., Mobile, a roofing business I had absolutely no intention of joining. But as luck would have it, I did join in 1996 and never looked back. I am fortunate to still be working in the roofing industry with Rich Nugent and his great company at Nations Roof.

What do you consider your most rewarding experience?
Raising my two daughters, 17-year-old Emily and 14-year-old Taylor. They make all the blood, sweat and tears worth it!

What was your first roofing experience?
My father had several close friends within NRCA, and I was sent to work with three contractors before ever walking into his office. The first was Chuck Bechtel at Harold J. Becker Co. Inc. in Dayton, Ohio. He put me with a female service technician on the first day, and we flashed metal roof curbs with EPDM. The second day was most notable because I was put on a production crew with a live pitch tear-off with fiberglass insulation. I was surprised I didn’t walk away then. I also worked with Conrad Kawulok at B&M Roofing of Colorado Inc. in Boulder and Bennett Hutchinson at Tip Top Roofers in Atlanta. Afterward, they were always referred to as my roofing dads.

What is your roofing industry involvement?
This is my first year serving on NRCA’s board of directors, and I’m also serving on NRCA’s Diversity + Inclusion, Industry Image and Outreach and ProCertification® Oversight committees. In addition, I am a member of National Women in Roofing and a former president of the South Alabama Roofing Association.

What song are you listening to over and over?
Chris Stapleton’s “Millionaire” currently is the most played song on my playlist.

People would be surprised to know ...
I have jumped out of an airplane twice. The first was a tandem jump into the Flora-Bama and the second was a solo jump.

What quality do you most admire in a person?
Humility—you never know what someone is going through so people should be treated with kindness and compassion.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
I would love to go to Bora Bora! I have big game fished for years and would love to catch a marlin there.

My favorite part about working in the roofing industry is ...
Every job is different. I enjoy collaborating with our team to tackle different challenges in each project. And I would be remiss not to mention the great friends I have acquired through NRCA.

What is your favorite food?
Lobster

If you could meet any historical figure, whom would you meet?
Maya Angelou. I am amazed she overcame so much and remained peaceful.
