WHAT IS YOUR POSITION WITHIN YOUR COMPANY? I am director of business development for Atlas Roofing Corp., Orlando, Fla.

WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL PROJECT OF WHICH YOU HAVE BEEN A PART? We helped Baker Roofing, Raleigh, N.C., with a reroofing project on a historical barn in North Carolina. We manufactured the products for the roof system and helped Baker Roofing with technical aspects. The building has an enormous gambrel roof system that made installation challenging. The result was beautiful, and the building now is used for weddings.

WHY DID YOU BECOME INVOLVED IN THE ROOFING INDUSTRY? By accident, which probably is a common answer. I was working for a manufacturer with some ties to the roofing industry, and those contacts convinced me roofing is awesome. They are correct!

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST ROOFING EXPERIENCE? When I was 6 years old, my family’s farmhouse was destroyed by a fire. My father was a general contractor, and I got to help him rebuild our home. It was a family and friends project, and I learned a lot that year.

WHAT SONGS ARE YOU LISTENING TO OVER AND OVER? “A-O-K,” by Tai Verdes

WHAT IS YOUR ROOFING INDUSTRY INVOLVEMENT? Working for Atlas Roofing has allowed my involvement with many industry organizations. I’ve been on the board of directors for the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association Inc. for several years and assist with various committees. I am involved with several Asphalt Roofing Manufacturer Association committees, as well. I recently joined NRCA’s Diversity + Inclusion and Residential Contractor committees. I love helping and watching the growing recognition of roofing as a skilled trade that is just as respected as plumbing and electrical.

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR MOST REWARDING EXPERIENCE? Animal rescue is a passion, and I foster animals as often as my travel schedule allows. I was able to foster two medical pups during 2020. Nurturing a sick animal back to health, loving it, training it and seeing it go to a perfect forever home is incredibly rewarding. I highly recommend it!

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB? Helping my grandmother in the garden. After we picked produce, we had to can, freeze, jelly or pickle it—a labor of love.

WHAT QUALITIES DO YOU MOST ADMIRE IN A PERSON? Kindness—true empathy that motivates action beyond self.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ROOFING MATERIAL TO WORK WITH? WHY? Aesthetically speaking, I think combinations of products are the most beautiful. An amazing asphalt shingle roof system with copper valleys and flashings. A stone wall with a gorgeous slate roof tie-in. The devil and the beauty are in the details.

IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO? WHY? Visiting Austria and Switzerland in the fall are the next destinations on my agenda. I will travel the whole world with my daughters and friends!

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER A WASTE OF TIME? Complaining without self- identifying possible resolutions.

BIG CITY OR SMALL TOWN? I have lived in both and will live in both many more times. My next adventure will take me back to the farm.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE STRESS RELIEVERS? Meditation and walking my dogs

IF YOU COULD MEET ANY HISTORICAL FIGURE, WHOM WOULD YOU MEET? WHY? Eleanor Roosevelt. She was a kind and powerful woman who lived in a pivotal historic time. I think she could teach me many things.
