Lindy Cutrona

Professional Roofing: What is the most unusual roofing project you've performed?
Cutrona: The Hasbro Toy Store at Walt Disney World, Orlando, Fla. We had various crews working on different specialties—tile, modified bitumen, standing-seam copper and shingles—in close quarters and a high-profile location. It was a challenge!

Why did you become a roofing contractor?
I wanted to know and understand the business my husband, Jerry, and I owned. For the first few years we owned the company, I did not work in roofing. I decided to get my roofing license a couple of years later, and here we are. It was a gradual transition for me that took about one year.

What are your favorite items on your desk?
I have two: Family photos—mostly taken on various vacations (they bring back such good memories)—and my calculator. It's about 15 years old, and we are such a great team. I dread the day it crashes on me.

What do you consider your most rewarding experiences?
Being a wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt. I'm blessed to belong to a family that sticks together. Not much can be more rewarding.

What are your best and worst habits?
My best is that I have good relationship-building skills. My worst is that I worry—about everything.

What was your first job?
Babysitting during summers.

What is your favorite vacation?
Traveling is one of my favorite things, so this is a tough one. Italy is awesome. The history is amazing, and Venice is the most romantic place I've been.

What do you consider a waste of time?
Waiting in line.

What is your biggest pet peeve?
People who waste my time.

What is your favorite stress reliever?
Playing with my dogs, Lucy and Jackson. Even on the worst day, playing ball with them for a few minutes can turn a day around.

What are the most challenging aspects of your job?
Working with the many different needs and personalities of our work teams. It often is a real challenge.

What is your roofing industry involvement?
General Works Roofing is a member of NRCA of which I am a director. I also serve as chairwoman of NRCA's Health and Safety Committee and am a member of the Workforce Committee, Internet /Electronic Communications Committee and Safety Manual Committee. The company also is a member of the Florida Roofing, Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning Contractors Association.
