NRCA University offers safety program

NRCA University is offering Profitability Through Effective Safety Programs, a new daylong program funded by an Occupational Safety and Health Administration grant. The course focuses on a safety program's critical elements that can reduce injuries, sustain productivity and increase profitability.

Topics addressed include a risk management approach to safety; identifying risks; risk transfer techniques and strategies; effective safety training programs; discipline policies that change behavior; and safety committee structure and purpose.

Each participant will receive classroom materials and a resource guide in an electronic format developed specifically for the class. These resources will help participants create a safety program suitable for safety and health compliance that can be used in client proposals and submittals.

NRCA offers marketing tools

NRCA offers F.Y.I., a pamphlet designed to help residential roofing contractors differentiate themselves from their competition.

F.Y.I. highlights roofing material options and costs, how to choose professional roofing contractors and the importance of roof system maintenance. It also can be used to educate homeowners about basic roofing terminology and how to buy residential roof systems.

In addition, NRCA offers Insist on a Professional Roofing Contractor, a pamphlet for commercial building owners.

Insist on a Professional Roofing Contractor explains why building owners should hire professional roofing contractors and the steps to take to ensure they are working with reputable, professional roofing contractors.

Both pamphlets are available in 100-copy bundles that are $50 for NRCA members and $100 for nonmembers.

NRCA's complete roofing manual is available

The complete NRCA Roofing Manual is now available, including the latest volume, The NRCA Roofing Manual: Architectural Metal Flashing, Condensation Control and Reroofing—2010.

The NRCA Roofing Manual is a four-volume series intended to update and supersede The NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual, Fifth Edition. It also includes The NRCA Roofing Manual: Steep-slope Roof Systems—2009; The NRCA Roofing Manual: Metal Panel and SPF Roof Systems—2008; and The NRCA Roofing Manual: Membrane Roof Systems—2007.

The four-volume manual is $425 for NRCA members and $650 for nonmembers. New and current NRCA members who have paid their 2010 membership dues will receive one complimentary copy of the manual's latest volume.

Also available are NRCA Construction Details on CD—2010 and The NRCA Roofing Manual CD—2010.

NRCA Construction Details on CD—2010 can be used with AutoCAD® software to customize plans for specific projects. It includes the construction details contained in all volumes of The NRCA Roofing Manual. The NRCA Roofing Manual CD—2010 contains all the information and construction details contained in the print versions of The NRCA Roofing Manual. It allows users to search the manuals' text by keyword or phrase, print any portion of the text or graphics, and import the text into a word processing program.

NRCA publishes LEED® guide

NRCA has released A Roofing Professional's Guide to LEED, a publication intended to help roofing professionals become familiar with roofing-specific issues related to the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.™

A Roofing Professional's Guide to LEED contains background information about LEED; descriptions of possible roofing-related aspects for three of the most widely used LEED project types; and an explanation of LEED's professional credentialing programs.

The manual is $25 for NRCA members and $50 for nonmembers.

FEI is accepting applications

NRCA University's Future Executives Institute (FEI) is accepting applications for its next three-year program. There will be a cocktail reception and informational session Monday, Feb. 22, during NRCA's 123rd Annual Convention in New Orleans Feb. 20-24.

The program provides participants a broader look at management theory and practice, an opportunity to develop leadership and communication skills and a better understanding of the participant's company as it exists in the business world.

FEI is based on nine areas essential to small-business operations: management, leadership, human resources, financial management, sales and marketing, roofing industry issues, health and safety, family relationships/succession and personal-development skills.

Courses are held at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management in Evanston, Ill., and are taught by Northwestern University professors, industry leaders and field experts. Class size is limited to 30 roofing professionals to allow for in-depth discussions and relationship building.
