ARMA releases educational video

The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) has released an educational video that provides a detailed look at the various components that comprise low- and steep-slope roof systems. The video, "Asphalt Roofing 101—A System Above the Rest," is split into two segments: low-slope and steep-slope.

The low-slope segment reviews the different options for asphalt roof systems and their installation methods to help commercial property owners make an educated choice when installing a new roof system.

The steep-slope segment addresses the six components—an underlayment, shingle starter product, asphalt shingles, hip and ridge shingles, and ventilation—that generally comprise steep-slope roof systems and examines how they work together to protect a home's contents.

The video can be seen on ARMA's website and YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/channel/UCPhOtlue6fIyMEE5rlFKXSw.

New roof systems introduced

Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance has introduced five new roof systems.

The AlphaGuard™ BIO is a two-component, two-coat bio-based polyurethane fluid-applied roof system. The two-component polyurethane composition reportedly offers a fast-curing system.

The PowerFAST™ Modified Bitumen System has a polymer-modified bitumen base membrane mechanically attached to a structural roof deck, reportedly enabling it to withstand higher wind-uplift forces than many fully adhered systems. The base ply overlap is sealed with a fast-curing adhesive.

The Rock-It™ WB Surfacing is a white, water-based, highly reflective surfacing designed for use as a cold-process aggregate adhesive that reportedly works equally well as a flood coat over new roof systems and as a restoration surfacing.

The TremLastic™ S Emulsion is a nonfibered, asbestos-free neoprene rubber modified asphalt emulsion that serves as a protective coating for new and existing smooth asphalt built-up roofs (BURs) and polymer-modified bitumen roof surfaces.

The TremLock® T-138 Standing Seam Metal Roofing System reportedly can help re-cover a damaged but still functional shingled roof or be installed as a new or replacement roof system.

Tremco also has introduced two new flashings—the AlphaGuard PUMA and the Black/White TRA Elastomeric Sheeting. The AlphaGuard PUMA mainly is used as a liquid flashing membrane that reportedly has a 20- to 25-minute cure time and can be applied in freezing temperatures.
