AppliCad has introduced its RoofScape application, which can be downloaded from www.roofestimating.com and allows users to model roof geometry in 3-D using the same tools as the company's Sorcerer and Roof Wizard products. Using an online server version of Sorcerer, the application prepares a roof estimate based on roof area and trim length. A complete roof model is sent to the server and processed with a user's personalized costs to prepare a detailed client quotation for a specific job.

Welder features updates

Leister Process Technologies has introduced its VARIMAT V2 hot-air automatic welder.

The VARIMAT V2 features a modified welding nozzle and a brushless blower motor that is said to increase welding speed to up to 39.3 feet per minute depending on material. The welder also features an improved drive motor design that reportedly can be used on slopes up to 30 degrees. In addition, it includes an e-drive display that is said to be easy to read and use and can be set to save preferred welding parameters for speed, temperature and air volume.

Underlayment is slip-resistant

CertainTeed Corp. has introduced CertainTeed® DiamondDeck™ underlayment, which consists of a synthetic polymer-based material that reportedly can be used in place of standard felt underlayment.

DiamondDeck can be installed on steep-slope roof decks and reportedly serves as a water-resistant layer beneath roofing shingles. The underlayment is said to be lightweight and includes a surface treatment that reportedly provides superior traction and slip resistance in dry and wet conditions. The underlayment comes in 4-foot-wide, 250-foot-long rolls.

In addition, CertainTeed has introduced its Flintlastic™ Ultra Glass SA Base Sheet for polymer-modified bitumen roof systems; the base sheet reportedly is easy to install and ideal for use with two-ply, 20-year commercial roof systems.

Flintlastic Ultra Glass SA Base Sheet can be used in new construction applications and reportedly applies smoothly and uniformly without the need for adhesives or hot asphalt. The base sheet is said to provide additional strength to roof systems and ensure long roof system service life.

Additionally, CertainTeed has introduced its EnerGen™ Photovoltaic Solar Power Roofing System, which features UNI-SOLAR® thin-film laminates that reportedly integrate with traditional asphalt shingles.

The EnerGen Photovoltaic Solar Power Roofing System is said to be lightweight and require no rooftop penetrations. The system's laminates reportedly lie flush with traditional roof shingles and are visually appealing.

CertainTeed also has introduced its TrueComfort® Blown-In Fiber Glass Insulation System, which includes white, loose-fill fiberglass insulation and portable blowing machine. The blowing machine features a two-piece design that reportedly transports easily; detailed instructions are included with the system. The system's blown-in insulation reportedly is noncombustible, noncorrosive to wires and pipes and contains no hazardous chemicals.

Gaco Western has introduced its GacoSil S-20, a silicone coating for commercial roof systems that is said to be solvent-free and environmentally friendly.

GacoSil S-20 is a single-component, moisture-curing silicone rubber roof coating designed for use on spray polyurethane foam, metal, concrete, wood, built-up roofing and most single-ply roof systems. It is said to be durable, color-stable, and chalk- and chemical-resistant.

Tool simplifies valley hemming

Swenson Shear has introduced the Valley Hemmer to its Snap Table Product Line; it reportedly allows users to easily hem concealed-fastener panels at any angle.

Roof hatch is energy-efficient

The Bilco Co. has introduced a roof hatch that meets LEED® standards for recycled content and reportedly is more than 48 percent more energy-efficient than standard roof hatches.

The roof hatch features an insulated cover and curb and a 2-inch-thick polyisocyanurate thermal insulation board with an R-value of 12. The hatch's EPDM finger-type gasket is said to produce a positive seal between the hatch's cover and curb and reduce air permeability. The hatch is fabricated from aluminum that reportedly resists corrosion and is milled primarily from recycled content. It includes a slam latch that is said to securely lock the hatch's cover in the closed position.

Vent fits nontraditional rooflines

Air Vent Inc. has introduced its Hip Ridge™ Vent, a shingle-over hip vent that reportedly can be used with nontraditional rooflines having little or no ridge line.

Hip Ridge Vent features an integrated gasket that is said to reduce or eliminate caulking underneath the vent, a rain diverter that reportedly channels water away from the vent and built-in vented end plugs. 90-mil EcoWhite Platinum EPDM is a white EPDM membrane that reportedly reflects sunlight and keeps membranes cooler than other EPDM products.

CLAD-GARD SA and CLAD-GARD MA are metal roof underlayments that are said to provide a moisture barrier between roof decks and adjacent metal systems. The underlayments reportedly feature skid-resistant surfaces, nail resealability, high-temperature resistance, corrosion protection and installation weatherproofing.

Resista is a polyisocyanurate insulation board that reportedly increases protection against fire, wind and environmental stresses. The insulation board is said to provide energy savings.

Ridge vent extracts heat

The Metal Construction Association (MCA) has introduced The Single or Dual Level Roll Former Operation and Maintenance Manual, a 44-page manual that provides information regarding general knowledge, basic operation, safety and maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting for standard roll forming processes.

Solar roof system is insulated

Metl-Span has introduced its CFR Insul-Solar,™ a comprehensive insulated solar standing-seam roof system that uses a thin-film solar laminate fused to the surface of the roofing panel substrate. The system's panel/laminate bond reportedly can withstand 160-mph winds.

Georgia Pacific has introduced a roof assembly consisting of a 5/8-inch-thick layer of DensDeck® roof board, 1-inch-thick minimum porous fiberglass or fiber insulation board, and 45-mil-thick TPO roof membrane that reportedly provides a sound-remediation solution while maintaining proper moisture control for low-slope roof systems.
