Membrane can self-clean

Birdair Inc. has introduced its TiO2 titanium dioxide photocatalytic membrane to the North American market. The TiO2 is a coated tensile membrane that is said to use ultraviolet radiation, oxygen and water vapor to create active oxygen ions. The active oxygen ions, in turn, are said to decompose organic dirt on a roof into natural components by an oxidation-reduction reaction. When it rains, the decomposed material reportedly will wash off without leaving streaks.

TiO2 is said to resist water stains and surface dirt buildup and have deodorizing and antibacterial properties. It is available in three selections—Sky Clear Coat, See-Through Coat and Ever Fine Coat—which have varying degrees of natural light transmittance.
