Manual provides roofing technology information

GAF Materials Corp. has made available Reference Manual for Property Managers, Owners, Architects and Specifiers, the third manual in the Roofing Solutions series created by the Center for Advancement of Roofing Excellence, RSI magazine and a group of roofing industry experts. The 16-page manual provides information about the latest roofing trends and technologies—including how to avoid specification and application errors—and understanding emerging roof systems.

The manual also includes "Hurricane Lessons Learned," a section detailing the effects of five hurricanes in Florida during 2004.

Cap sheet is reflective

Johns Manville has introduced GlasKap® CR, a mineral-surfaced, white acrylic-coated fiberglass cool roof cap sheet. It is said to be ultraviolet-resistant.

GlasKap CR has a reflectivity rating of 0.76 and emissivity rating of 0.85.

Wristband holds tools

MDG Tools Inc. has introduced its Magnogrip™ tool wristband with embedded magnets that is said to securely hold nails, screws and tools. It also is said to be lightweight, comfortable, durable and strong enough to hold a hammer.

Metal manual is updated

The Metal Building Manufacturers Association has released the 2006 edition of The Metal Building Systems Manual, updated from its 2002 edition to include revisions to the International Building Code for 2006.

The manual includes information about drift and deflection criteria, typical project roles and responsibilities, manufacturing and erection tolerances, and examples for how to calculate snow, wind and seismic forces on metal buildings. It is more than 600 pages and includes an interactive and searchable CD-ROM that provides more than 50 pages of metal roof system details.

Alarm system features GPS locator

DeWALT Industrial Tool Co. has introduced its MOBILELOCK™ global positioning system (GPS) locator and anti-theft alarm that allows contractors to locate stolen items using the Internet. It features an alarm that alerts a user when a protected piece of equipment is disturbed or someone tries to remove the MOBILELOCK unit.

MOBILELOCK is said to mount easily on equipment using integrated heavy-duty magnets or by fastening with screws.

Sage Software Inc. has made available its Sage Master Builder Version 12, a software program for construction business management that is said to provide business owners instant access to information about their companies, such as cash balance, cash position, company profitability, job status and change orders.

Patch offers durability

Benjamin Obdyke Inc. has introduced PlyPatch,™ a patch for roof potholes that is said to be durable and withstand loads of up to 450 pounds. It consists of a sheet of plywood with four attached metal drywall clips that can be dropped into a roof pothole and secured to a roof deck with nails.

PlyPatch is said to install quickly and easily. Each PlyPatch sheet is 7 3/4 inches by 7 3/4 inches by 7/16 of an inch.
