Monday, Sept. 4, marked the celebration of Labor Day, an annual tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. Many commercial roof system designers use ASHRAE 90.1, "Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings," to demonstrate compliance with applicable energy-efficiency requirements. The most recent version, ASHRAE 90.1-2016, provides updates that include climate zone data that affect required R-values and air leakage and skylight provisions.
After a fire nearly destroyed a historical tabernacle in Provo, Utah, the community rebuilt the structure as the Provo City Center Temple. Utah Tile and Roofing Inc., Salt Lake City, was selected to install the temple's new slate roof system and associated waterproofing, sheet metal and copper details.
Marijuana use remains illegal under federal law, yet some states have deemed recreational marijuana use legal and many more have deemed medical marijuana use legal. Roofing contracting company employers must be able to navigate the conflict between state and federal law while taking action to maintain drug-free workplaces.
