PetersenDean Roofing & Solar announces partnership

PetersenDean Roofing & Solar, Fremont, Calif., has announced its partnership with SolarEdge Technologies, Fremont, and LG Chem, Seoul, South Korea, to offer homeowners an affordable solar energy creation and storage option. PetersenDean Roofing & Solar installs about 2,000 solar and roof systems in the U.S. every month.

SolarEdge will supply an intelligent inverter solution that maximizes the power generation of individual photovoltaic (PV) modules by using StorEdge technology, which manages solar energy production, consumption and storage. SolarEdge's solution will help PetersenDean Roofing & Solar residential customers increase their energy independence. LG Chem will provide its residential energy storage unit 10H 9.8-kilowatt-hour battery packs for energy storage. As a result of the partnership, PetersenDean Roofing & Solar customers will be able to monitor their PV systems' solar energy generation, solar energy storage and battery status through a single platform, helping ensure they will have backup power if their local sources of electricity diminish.

CHEM LINK® opens training facility

CHEM LINK Inc., Schoolcraft, Mich., has opened a new contractor training center in Schoolcraft.

The 3,200-square-foot facility has a 540-square-foot interactive media classroom that will be used to host groups of up to 20 contractors for in-person training, virtual education and hands-on experiences using CHEM LINK and SOPREMA® Inc. products. The facility is handicap-accessible and features a café that serves catered lunches.

OMG® Roofing Products expands distribution

OMG Roofing Products, Agawam, Mass., has added construction supply distribution company Budmech Spolka, Warsaw, Poland, to its European distribution network. The partnership is OMG Roofing Products' first in eastern Europe. OMG Roofing Products also has recently added new roofing partners in Austria, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands and Slovenia; OMG Roofing Products now is represented by 15 distribution partners in Europe.

In addition, OMG Inc., the company within which OMG Roofing Products and FastenMaster® operate, has announced plans to implement a new corporate structure to help advance the company's growth. Within the OMG Roofing Products and FastenMaster divisions, small-business units will be created to encourage new product development. Metal Accessories, Adhesives/Solar and Fasteners are the three new business units within the OMG Roofing Products division, and Decking and Structural are two new business units within the FastenMaster division.

SOPREMA® opens manufacturing plant

SOPREMA Inc., Wadsworth, Ohio, hosted a grand opening for its new resin production plant at the company's Wadsworth campus Feb. 21. SOPREMA customers and partners enjoyed food, drinks, live music, product demonstrations, educational courses and facility tours during the event.

The 21,600-square-foot plant manufactures resin for roofing and waterproofing products and serves as a training facility for contractors, consultants and architects. The plant is the fourth facility in operation at the Wadsworth campus and the fourth SOPREMA manufacturing facility in the U.S.

Atlas® Roofing products appear on HGTV show

The Napiers reveal Cory Burks' renovated house.

Products from Atlas Roofing Corp., Atlanta, were featured in a Feb. 26 episode of "Home Town," an HGTV home renovation show hosted by Ben and Erin Napier. "Home Town" depicts the Napiers renovating historical houses in their hometown of Laurel, Miss.

During the "A Little Rough, A Little Refined" episode, the Napiers renovated the home of Cory Burks, quality control manager—web technologies division for Atlas Roofing. The renovation included installation of a new roof system using Atlas Roofing HP 42-inch StormMaster® Shake shingles featuring Scotchgard™ Protector by 3M and Summit® 60 roof underlayment.

The Garland Co. receives award

The Garland Co., Cleveland, accepted a 2018 Evolution of Manufacturing Award from Smart Business Magazines, Events and Books during the Evolution of Manufacturing Conference and Awards event Feb. 22 in Cleveland. The Garland Co. was one of 12 northern Ohio companies honored during the awards ceremony.

The Garland Co. was recognized for its ability to successfully evolve its manufacturing operations to adapt to the global economy. The 120-year-old manufacturing company has created sustainable products, including water-based primers and environmentally friendly coatings, and developed a quality assurance and communication program to help ensure customers receive high-quality products.

ARMA announces QARC award winners

The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) has announced the winners of its 2018 Quality Asphalt Roofing Case-Study (QARC) Awards.

The QARC Awards recognize exceptional asphalt roofing projects completed in the U.S. and Canada. This year's program recognized quality installations of beautiful and durable roof systems on three diverse buildings—a music hall in Ohio, a Florida residence and a historical museum in Philadelphia.

The following received 2018 QARC Awards:

  • Gold: The Imbus Roofing Co. Inc., Wilder, Ky., for Cincinnati Music Hall
  • Silver: Reliant Roofing Inc., Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., for Topsail Residence, Ponte Vedra Beach
  • Bronze: Thomas Co. Inc., Egg Harbor Township, N.J., for the Museum of the American Revolution, Philadelphia

SPFA announces award winners

The Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance (SPFA) has announced the recipients of the 2018 SPFA National Industry Excellence Awards. The awards are given to companies whose project submissions best demonstrate innovative uses of spray foam in one of six categories: commercial wall foam, residential wall foam, SPF roof less than 40,000 square feet, SPF roof greater than 40,000 square feet, specialty applications and elastomeric roof coatings.

Elite Insulation LLC, Broadway, Va.; PolyPro LLC, Harrisonburg, Va.; RPC Industries, JACKCRETE division, Hampton, Va.; SDI Insulation, Burlingame, Calif.; United Thermal Systems, Niagara Falls, N.Y.; NRCA member Wedge Roofing Inc., Petaluma, Calif.; and NRCA member West Roofing Systems Inc., La Grange, Ohio, each received an award.

MCA presents service award

Moffatt

The Metal Construction Association (MCA) presented its Patrick R. Bush Volunteer Service Award to Scott Moffatt, architectural market manager—building products for PPG Industries Inc., Pittsburgh, during MCA's January meeting in San Diego.

The Patrick R. Bush Volunteer Service Award was created in honor of longtime MCA board member Pat Bush and recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the metal construction industry. Moffatt was recognized for the contributions he has made during MCA's annual and semi-annual meetings.

"Not only did Scott improve attendance at the meetings by selecting more appealing venues and enhancing the schedule of events, he managed to make the events more cost effective at the same time," says Karl Hielscher, MCA's executive director. "His efforts have revitalized MCA's meetings, and we are grateful."

Moffatt has 39 years of experience within PPG Industries and has twice served on MCA's board of directors.

NWIR appoints board of directors

National Women in Roofing (NWIR) has announced its 2018 board of directors.

Shari Carlozzi, national sales manager of the roofing division for Hapco Inc., Kent, Ohio, is chairwoman of the Executive Committee; Jennifer Stone, manager of RoofCare service centers for Nations Roof, Lithia Springs, Ga., is vice chairwoman; Heidi J. Ellsworth, president of HJE Consulting Group, Camp Sherman, Ore., is past chairwoman; Renae Bales, vice president of KPost Roofing & Waterproofing Co., Dallas, is treasurer; and Jennifer Ford Smith, director of sales for Johns Manville, Denver, is secretary.

Texas association announces board of directors

The North Texas Roofing Contractors Association (NTRCA) has announced its 2018 board of directors.

Charles Cross Jr., chief estimator for NRCA member CIM Roofing Inc., Dallas, is president; Paul Ramon, president of Ramon Roofing Inc., Fort Worth, Texas, is president-elect; Holly L. Green, owner of Brettco Roofing, Fort Worth, is past president; and Bo Jackson, sales manager for NRCA member Owens Corning, Toledo, Ohio, is treasurer.

Additionally, NTRCA presented its Associate of the Year, Industry Leader of the Year and Golden Hammer Awards during an awards banquet Feb. 17 in Fort Worth. Tommy Becerra, north Texas district manager for NRCA member ABC Supply Co. Inc., Beloit, Wis., was awarded Associate of the Year. NTRCA's prestigious Industry Leader of the Year Award was presented to Gary Boyd, president and owner of NRCA member Boyd Inc., Mansfield, Texas.

NTRCA's annual Golden Hammer Awards recognize roofing contractors who have completed outstanding roofing projects during the previous year. Brettco Roofing; NRCA member MRB Contractors LLC, Irving, Texas; NRCA member Pitts Roofing Co. Inc., Haltom City, Texas; Springtree Roofing & Restoration, Plano, Texas; and NRCA member Texas Roof Management Inc., Richardson, received Golden Hammer Awards for community service projects. NRCA members Absolute Roofing & Waterproofing, Frisco, Texas; Castro Roofing of Texas, Dallas; and Supreme Roofing Systems Inc., Dallas, received Golden Hammer Awards for commercial roofing projects. Outback Roofing LLC, Dallas; Tarrant Roofing, Bedford, Texas; and NRCA member Tice Enterprises Ltd., Dallas, received Golden Hammer Awards for residential roofing projects. KM Coatings has released the Liquid Calculator App 2.0, an app designed to help contractors calculate the estimated quantity of KM Coatings elastomeric coating needed for a project. Product information and waste factor estimates have been updated, and expanded printing and sharing options now are available. The app can be downloaded at kmcoatings.us.

The Metal Construction Association has made available an updated Insulated Metal Panel Selection Guide. The 30-page publication features detailed insulated metal panel specifications, performance data, diagrams and photos that advise users about panel selection.
